So how did Vitali scare him out of the division exactly? Was he threataning to show Lennox how to train so Lennox could injure himself into oblivion like Vitali?
Lennox Lewis: A great champion, a great fighter, a great man,a great father, a great son, a great speaker, a great gentleman.
Well, here's hoping. I hope Holyfield gives as gracious and generous a retirement speech as Lewis gave, too.
I miss Lennox, he was a great fighter, better than most on this forum gives him credit for.. I hope he stays retired, for the sake of his legacy.
That's the thing, it's those who can control fear and even use it to advantage that go on the do greater than average folks who can let fear beat them down.
I don't think it was as much Tyson being scared as it was Tyson wanting to kill his opponent. He needed a release for all of his thoughts and energy. When you think about, and look at the pacing he did prior to every fight, it appeared to be him in an ADD/adrenaline fit that was uncontrollable. Tyson openly admitted he was scared (as is every fighter), but I think his insane desire to win and destroy his opponent controlled his attack, not his fear. Foreman, I think was the same way. Do you think he was more scared, or more interested in killing his opponent? He was a mean dude.
Honestly, I really don't know. Foreman certainly didn't look scared. Sometimes he looked scared after he got hit haha, but not before the fight. Tyson was unique because of that pacing that he did. Like a caged lion waiting to be set free to hunt, he walked back and forth during the introductions. He looked unable to stand still, and once the bell rang, it was just "attack mode". His HEART (with Cus, Rooney, etc.) was incredible, as what you called the "lust to win".
Tyson wasn't scared until his first loss, and he used to blitz even before that. Imo Lennox is wrong. Tyson blitzes you because that is his style, fear has nothing to do with it. Tyson is pretty short for a heavyweight and therefore getting on the inside quickly is crucial.
uhhhh there's a pretty famous quote, a poster may even of had it in his sig at one point about tyson talking about fear in the ring and how he simply had to bite down on his gumshield and think to himself "lets go". foreman has talked about his own fear in the ring a number of times. all boxers go through it regardless of how big and tough they are.
foreman said in an interview that he went into the ring with a lot of anger and the intention of killing his opponents during his first ring career
