Report: Teddy Atlas will no longer train Alexander Povetkin

For what it's worth Chagaev, Boswell and Huck excellent LOC for a contender.:good I mean, we wouldn't be criticizing Fury or Boystov if those were thier last 3, would we?

 

I don't think now is a good time for povetkin to split with atlas.

 

Hiring Atlas was mistake in first place.

 

No loss, now maybbe he can get a trainer who will make the most of Pov's potential

 

Ron Borges, Atlas's ******* buddy, is blaming Povetkin cause Borges says Atlas can't leave FNF to train Povetkin--as If FNF needs Atlas that much. Teddy got what he wanted, some cash, some publicity.

 

Without the "Teddy Curse" how would the high staked gamblers get the best input available? They NEED him on FNF because he goes into oblivion otherwise.

 

Atlas never seemed right as a trainer for Povetkin and I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I do think Atlas did the right thing in getting Povetkin to postpone his fight with Wlad at that time though.

Povetkin is, now, as ready as he's going to be for Wlad and I hope they meet late this year. Wlad seems to have to face Thompson this summer so maybe Povetkin gets his mandatory(I think Rahman) out of the way as well and they'll be free to meet after that.

 

So who's training him for the Huck fight?

 

Atlas has a contract with ESPN and it is his main job, why should he leave that. The deal was Atlas would train Povetkin in the US for nine months of the year and when he is not working at ESPN the other three months, then he goes to Russia. It is clear that Povetkin's camp have went back on their word.

 

Maybe now Alexander can go ahead and fight Wladimir this summer..

 

There's definitely a pro-Atlas bias to the article. Borges is incorrect when he says that Povetkin was "going nowhere" before Atlas arrived. Povetkin was already the mandatory challenger at that time.

 

The worst thing that could happen is Povetkin fighting Wlad without Atlas, losing (which he will), than Atlas being able to claim he would have won if he'd still been training him :twisted:

 

We heard the same thing last year, but it wasn't true. Is it true this time? Who will be his new trainer?
