Can't imagine this would happen. Pavlik needs to rededicate himself to clean living and only then think about fighting, and only after winning a tuneup or two should he consider a world class opponent. I'd favor Froch over Pavlik's on KP's best day, but by now Kelly surely is more declined than Froch. It wouldn't be a fun or competitive fight.
Huge Froch fan here. His love of Johnny Cash, hot woman, and durable chin make him an honorary American in my book. That said. Pavlik is being criminally underrated here. Pavlik has always shown a strong chin and a strong right hand that would find its mark repeatedly against Froch, due to how low he carries his left hand. Pavlik has at least a 50/50 chance and I wouldn't be surprised if he became the first to stop Froch.
I don't think Pavlik would take this fight, especially being in Froch backyard. He needs some decent wins first. That being said don't be surprised to see Froch try to get Miranda down at a catchweight to make an entertaining fight.
source? my understanding is that kelly will take a couple tune ups then look for a step up. this fight will not happen in may.
I heard this too through insiders. Froch is looking at options to fill the date he had with Bute. Bute is doing the same, possibly Hopkins if they can make that deal happen.
Its a fun fight I think. Hope it gets made. One guy has an awkward style but has very leaky defense and gets hit a lot, the other guy has solid defense but likes to come forward a lot. Should be good.
I have a hard time seeing this fight happening this soon, if it does than thats a risky fight for Pavlik. Pavlik needs to take a couple easier fights before stepping in with someone near Froch's level. I like that Pavlik is making a complete change of sceneray and if he can keep it together he might become a factor again. If they fight in the next 6 months I like Froch comfortably but if the fight happens after Pavlik has put a few tune-ups under his belt its an even fight and I might even lean towards Pavlik.
And if Kelly Pavlik still looked like the same guy who beat Taylor twice, I'd agree. That said, he looked like crap against a regional-level fighter his last time out, plus is coming off a long layoff and taking his first fight with a new trainer.
