Briton Amir Khan has unveiled ambitious plans, just 48 hours after his first twelve round defence of the Commonwealth lightweight title against Gairy St Clair in London, that he aims to fight Ricky Hatton at light-welterweight, if the Mancunian is still active.
Dream bout: Khan is hoping to fight Ricky Hatton

Khan is optimistic that he could yet fight Ricky Hatton.

"I can't see Ricky Hatton being around in 18 months. But if he is then you never know. You have got some good fighters there. You've got Junior Witter, Ricky Hatton. Particularly Ricky Hatton, if it ever happens. I think he'd be made for my style. Ricky you have to look for and speed helps. And with Junior Witter, speed helps too because he's very lateral. Most people haven't faced anyone as fast as me."

Khan, still on 21, is still growing and may have to move up to the 140lb division.

"At light-welterweight I'd be hitting a lot harder and I'd be a lot stronger. I don't want to come to a stage where I'm killing myself to make the weight. Once you start killing yourself you don't perform on the night. I want to win a world title at this weight and then I'll go up."

However, the next plan is a European title fight against Yuri Romanov, of Belarus, most likely on April 5.

"I could fight Romanov in England or it might be in America. He [Romanov] lost to Graham Earl, but he's come on a lot since that fight.

"He's a better fighter. You need tough fights. I learnt a lot more from this last fight than going in and knocking out someone I knew I could beat.

In 18 months time, Im sure Khan will be a comfortable light welter with power to add to speed, and Hattons career will be winding down, it wont be as one-sided for Hatton as many suggest

Possibly, at twenty three Khan might be ready for the bigtime and a match-up with one of britian's fading stare would be a great way for him to arive.

I take it all you have seen of Graham Earl is the Khan fight? Believe it or not he used to be pretty good, untill Katsidis retired him.
Please don't base your opinions of Graham Earl from the sad shell of a fighter that stumbled into Amir Khan's way.

I seriosly doubt that, Hatton has puts relentless pressure on you and also has good hand and foot speed along with experience. Khan will be in for a long night.

About a year ago Frank Warren was asked in response to comments by some of Khan's people that "with in a year Amir Khan would be a world class fighter" if Amir Khan would be challenging for a World Title with in a year. His response was "No. Absolutely not.". When asked why, he responded "Cause its just not going to happen. Hey when I was twenty I wanted to **** Julia Roberts but that wasn't about to happen either now was it." (paraphrasing)

Frank knows his job is to develop a talent that can win a few belts and go on to become a phenome. Trust me whatever team Khan might be saying Frank wouldn't put him in there with either guy unless they were well passed it or Amir had significantly improved.

I'm not sure about Khan's inside game, he's never been put under any sort of pressure

18 months is a lot of beer though. A rough calculation

Typical Friday night = 10 pints
Darts sessions with the lads = 10 pints
Total Guinness consumed per week = 20 pints
    --------------------------------------------
    20 X 78 weeks = 1560 pints

It is conceivable Ricky would be more likely to challenge David Haye in an all-British clash, rather than Khan

Amir Khan physically is big welterweight with laser like speed and good reach. I know it..most people here know it. When his skills are developed he will give 99.9% of the fighters in the world a tough fight. Ricky Hatton is no Sugar Ray Leonard..he is not hard to figure out. He is one dimensional..he relies on bullying fighters and dominating them. That is why he will never have success moving up in weight..like Floyd Mayweather..because at the end of the day... it is skills that wins you fights.

If they meet in a years time..Amir Khan shuts him down..in bad way... I am not messing about.

Yea, and Hatton's skills won him a title at WW. Hattons does have good skills and is very quick. There is a reason why he has already beaten top fighters.

Doubtful, ricky's pretty fast too. And his foot speed and movement can get him past most jabs. Hatton would also man handle Khan on the inside.
