I love Benn as well but I also think that Ward would outbox him easily. Ward would be constantly moving not allowing benn to plant him feet. If ward stood infront of Benn then it would be a very hard fight. I think Ward is going to prove that he is a Special fighter!
Even at this fairly early stage in his career I feel Ward is more accomplished than Benn ever was (as far as I recall - Benn was never unified champion nor RING champ?). I realize a lot of posters here are British and thus love their guy (fair enough), but looking at things coldly I feel Ward is the better fighter. No need to fret, though, in a couple of years we will know for sure.
Something like 13 defences of the wbc title. Not too shabby. You're right, Ward has the potential but he hasn't shown enough yet to suggest he'd definatly beat a prime and hungry Benn, the guy was an animal.
I just watched Eubank-Benn I and Benn was pretty beast there, but I think Ward has a lot of potential thus the thread
From what Ward has shown so far, he'd be favoured to beat Benn, whose best performances generally came against sluggers rather than boxers. Malinga gave a prime Benn fits in their first fight, and was not on the same level as Ward. Galvano gave him a lot of problems in their second fight, as did Piper. It would be a long and frustrating night for Benn, who wasn't quite the juggernaught that some people seem to think.
This fight would be ugly. Ward would butt him, and then Benn would hit him behind the head, so somebody wins by DQ
Benn was a fantastic fighter and would have shattered Andre Fraud's Glass Jaw within six. Fraud hasn't seen that sort of power and likely never will.
I'am a big fan of ward but he'll be fighting for his life as benn was'nt exactly slow like froch was. Benn would obliterate froch & kessler & IMHO i see him getting ward outer there. Benn's relentless ferocity would eventually beat ward until he's static & then smash him into the canvass.
Benn was a beast, but I think he'd be troubled by a mobile fast opponent like Ward. Those that came to stand in front or trade most likely favor Benn. But he could be outboxed by an elite boxer.
Anyone picking Ward is new to boxing hahha they would have to pick Ward up with a Sponge. Mclennan would of obliterated and out boxed Ward. Ward looks decent against slow brawlers like Froch, but the lateral movement, speed and power of Benn would take care fo Ward inside 3. Mclennan would just cut him to ribbons with timing, power and speed too. Ward is good by todays barren smw division, but stick him in the era with the big guns of the last 20yrs, he doesn't make it out with less than 10 losses in his career.:deal
