Why can't we just accept Lewis won the fight by TKO. Vitali gave a great effort but end of the day his face couldn't hold up to the punishment Lewis was dishing out

A rematch would have been huge, but at that stage of Lewis career he deserved the right to say who and when he fights. And he felt it was time to retire, didn't have the motivation and probabvly saw it as a sign to pass the torch over to the new guy.

The lack of a rematch caused this to become what it is today. A never F'n ending troll fest of a really good fight.

Man, Lewis was so there for the taking that evening, Vitali had a huge chance there but he simply BLEW it. He blew it, period. Lewis TKO6 Vitali.

I rewatched this fight recently and it was anything but a good boxing fight, though somewhat exciting. One guy was nervous as hell (Vitali), the other guy rusty, and both were tired after about 2 rounds. Lots of clinching and brawling, very ugly fight.

True, but the thing is a "there for the taking" Lennox Lewis is

than every opponent Vitali Klitscho - or Wlad, for that matter, has ever fought in his career. It was a TKO all right in Lennox vs Vitali and that is simply the end of story.

It was what it was, a TKO in round 6.

Exactly. Lewis TKO6 Vitali, period. I see no controversy in that fight. If ever a fight had to be stopped on cuts, it's this one.

And of course Lewis is Vitalis best opponent, and by far. I rate Lewis higher than Vitali and would chose a prime Lewis over a prime Vitali any day of the week.

What I was trying to say is that, on that evening, Lewis was not on top of his game. Not physically. He was rusty and to me it seemed that he was ill prepared. Vitali was in his physical prime, and he should have beaten that version of Lewis.
But Vitali was too nervous, he wasn't mentally prepared for Lewis. One can clearly see that. And Lewis exploited that without mercy.

Lewis was beating small HW's his entire career. His most important fights, against tyson and holyfield, were fights against smaller, past prime guys. Vitali was the first guy lewis met in the ring who didn't have problem with lewis height and reach. Vitali was giving him boxing lesson untill that injury happened. We all know what happened after the fight. LEwis was still active until vitali became mandatory lol. Then lewis decided it's time to finish.

I'm a fan of both guys... A rematch was absolutely necessary and Lewis refused it. ***** move.
