Friday is always good for 10 or 12 rounds, recently got shut out by Areolla and Perez, is this too big of a step for price though?
To be honest i've never seen Friday fight but Price really needs to be stepped forward a few levels . I expected him to beat big John but not that quickly . He needs someone thats going to test him and take him rounds . is Sam Sexton still fighting ?
I am not sure Friday presents enough danger to be considered a decent test. Maybe someone like Travis Walker. He is more current, more of a threat, and a true test as to whether he has what it takes to be top level. He has had some loses that could be considered controversial. On the whole I think he is a really good fighter.
To be honest I'd like to see Price do a full 12 rounds to really see where he is at. Friday would probably allow him to do that, however he is too small to pose any threat so I could see Price learning nothing from the fight. I think Ray Austin, although it may be hard to make the fight if it could be made Austin would certainly offer Price a tough examination
Walker would be a good shout. If Price wants more serious tests (and the Fury fight doesn't happen) he'll have to travel. The likes of Dimitrenko, Pulev, Arreola and Chambers probably won't come to the UK.
I'd love to see him fight Perez, but as it's doubtful a durable journeyman would be the best move, Sprott or Friday would be good, maybe a trialhorse like Gavern?
If Price did that to McDermott I wouldn't bother with the likes of Sexton, by the time his cuts heal and had a tune-up/Larry return I think Price ought to be way behind that sort of level. I'm expecting a bum next, in all honesty. Probably in the summer.
He'd probably not get a licence to fight here but I think Oliver McCall wouldn't be the worst shout, over eight or ten rounds.
I actually disagree with Walker, guys. His chin is abysmal. A guy who can pick his shot and deliver a hard bomb like Price would make easy, easy work of Travis Walker. Friday Ahunanya is a decent shout IMO. Very good punch resistance, will take Price the distance and is awkward enough to cause a couple of problems. It would say a lot if Price were to knock him out.
I suspect Ahunanya would cost too much. I see him fighting some East European who has yet to beat a warm body, in building up a 20ish-0 record. That seems to be the formula at the moment. Someone like this: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=510397&cat=boxer
Maybe if Fury throws his belt in the bin rather than face Price we could see Price vs Sosnowski for the British title. Despite Sosnowski falling of the wagon somewhat in recent years he would still prove to be a good scalp and always takes his opponents into the later rounds. Would be another impressive step up as well for price.
SNV, help me. I am on an Earl-hickey thread and I'm completely agreeing with the OP. It's like a bad dream.
