Gimme a good reason why he should avoid Winky? cause he can't beat him? lol Couldda, shouldda theories doesn't apply as accomplishments. He fought certain fighters that he should have really fought (which is good) but he lost. No other alibi's should have been applied for that. Ducking should not be consented if you still love boxing or any fight for that matter. :nono
Sorry, but belts really don't mean that much most especially today. Just think about H. Sotto for that matter. I hope you really understand what I mean. :hat
Not Forrest and Winky again, he lost there - twice What makes those as accomplishments for him? This one's acceptable and I would also like to add up that it was a shot Mosley that brutalized Margarito as well. That should also add up well to his accomplishments :good
It means if you give Mosley his credit for losing and getting dominated by both Forrest and Wright, then Cotto also gets his own share of credit for losing to both Margarito and Pacquiao and that also follows to someone like DLH for fighting every notable fighter for the last two generations just losing most of them. Analyze that.
A simple answer would be, yes. Looking deeper... Shane won his title from Philip Holiday. Good win over an opponent that was 31-0. He had eight defenses of his IBF Lightweight title (KOs) and basically, if you didn't already have him in this position, becomes the man-to-beat at Lightweight. At Lightweight, he fought against no great opposition, although he had good wins against some solid opponents and really good opponents. That alone is a pretty good account for himself. I guess people seem to forget that Shane moved up to Welterweight nine months and had two fights up at the weight before he fought Oscar. He had nothing notable before Oscar, but a couple of tune-ups (KOs). One of them against a very good fighter in Wilfredo Rivera. He then beats Oscar for his WBC Welterweight title and becomes a two-weight world champion. (for a moment, with Tito's move up in weight, Shane again becomes the man-to-beat in his division) He makes three defenses of his WBC Welterweight title (KOs) before losing the title to Vernon Forrest. Shane loses his next fight against Forrest, as well. After losing to Forrest, Shane moves up to Junior Middleweight with a NC against Raul Marquez. He then challenges Oscar for his WBC and WBA Junior Middleweight titles and wins by unanimous decision. (albeit controversial) He AGAIN becomes, depending on who you ask, the man-to-beat in his weight division. He then loses his title in it's first defense against Winky Wright, followed by another defeat from Winky. After these losses, he has two fights against some relatively unknown fighters before facing Fernando Vargas twice (KOs). The Vargas fights are tough, because Vargas was so quick off his prime that it's hard to tell how far he actually fell before Shane got to him. After Vargas, he had a very good win against Luis Collazo before losing to Miguel Cotto. This is probably his closest loss as it is the only one that I think you can argue, he won. Cotto pulled it out in the championship rounds, but Shane kept himself in the fight until the very end. Post-Cotto, Mosley had a KO win against Ricardo Mayorga. Shane then makes another move down to Welterweight with a dominating KO win against the man-to-beat, Antonio Margarito (taking his WBA Welterweight title in the process). Following Margarito, he lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. He'll always be remembered in this fight for giving Floyd all kinds of trouble in the second round before being completely dominated. He then goes on to give his worst performances with a draw against Sergio Mora and a one-sided loss against Manny Pacquiao. In final assessment of Shane's career so far, he was THE MAN at three different weight divisions; twice at Welterweight. He had 8 defenses of his Lightweight title and 3 defenses of his Welterweight title; all by knockout. He beat 4 top notch undefeated fighters. He fought just about every top fighter of his era in his weightclass with a record of 6-7 4KO (KOing one man that was said to be unKOable as a 4-1 underdog). He was also never knocked out in 55 professional fights. But it's not all silver lining... His losses against Forrest and Winky were both against fighters that accomplished less than he did. It's one thing to lose against the better man (i.e. Floyd Mayweather), but it's another to lose against a fighter ranked lower than you. He also will always have the asterisk on his career for the admitted steroid use in preparation for the second Oscar De La Hoya fight. As far as this goes, I think he's without question a HOF fighter with just the first half of his career. The only thing that MAY deny him entry is his admitted use of PEDs during the later part of his career. I think the real debate is whether or not Shane should be considered an ATG. My answer is no, but it's certainly up for debate.
Yes .... Started his career 40-0 or something like that Shot or not, he beat Vargsa twice, KO'd Mayorga, .... beat Oscar once convincingly, KO'd a welterweight champ Margarito (not saying Marg wa sgreat but still impressive win) Though he has losses, they have all been to good/great fighters: Forest Wright Cotto Mayweather Pacquiao He isn't a ATG HOF fighter but he should get into the hall of fame. But he should hang it up soon or peoples opinion of him as a HOF may change
Borderline but I think he lacks a top win or two from being HOF. The IBHOF really became a popularity contest instead of an exclusive club. He also should get a cloud under his career for PEDs but why is Mosley criticized the most for it? RJJ and Holyfield took it yet still most would have RJJ for FOTD in the 90's and both as ATGs. Still he took his ass whoppings against Mayweather, Forrest, & Wright so call that payback if you will for PEDs.(Same for Jones' ko losses and Holy's ass whopping to Toney, another PED user) Vargas juiced against Hoya too but no, pin it all on Mosley. Tito had wraps and Pacquiao possibly does/did PEDs(no proof TBF) but definitely had wrapped his hands illegally before(against Marg but two wrongs don't make a right though I had no sympathy for Marg). Mosley only lost to the best of his time even when he was done so that should count for something too(Mora fight didn't deserve to be a pro fight lol) He is ruining his legacy ATM as is Toney, RJJ, and Holyfield. For short, I'd say no for HOF but I can see him getting in. ATG, no. The only person of recent times I'd consider ATG is Morales. Call me strict all you wanna but that and the IBHOF should be exclusive expecially the ATG list. Top 100? Nah, that's laughable that it's that long to some people.
You have to remember that Mosley wouldn't have gotten the #1 welterweight and p4p status again without Margarito. So Margarito is one significant win for him. Without Margarito, Mosley wouldn't have been in the contention by then. Margarito plays a big part for him. But sorry, losses are losses - no excuses. It doesn't give credit for him. Props for having the balls to fight them though.
I pretty much agree with you.... that's the way I feel.... He lacks a couple of great wins.... Regarding your comment about the IBHOF, I would say that unfortunately you are right.... the prestige of the IBHOF is gone.
