In the likely event Mayweather can't get Pacquiao to fight him. Cotto is a likely first choice for both. For Pacquiao he is a guy he has beaten. When is the last time Pacquiao took on a real chalange, facing someone he had not forced into a compermise or comming off a loss or a draw? Bush was in his first term.
For Mayweather Cotto is the guy who can bring in the most money. I have stated many times before here that Mayweather's main movotion in presuing a fight with Pacquiao has been money. His next choice of oppoents will be money as well. Cotto should expect a phone call from both, and use the fact that he is in demand to his finacianal advantage.
As for the results? Basicaly Cotto will not beat either he has a slim shot and it is very slim against Pacquiao but I wouldn't bet on him.
While he boxed a lot better against Margarito than he ever has before. He did of course have a wounded and overrated oppoent to look good against. He won't beat Mayeweather and a Pacquiao rematch will be the same as their first. Cotto will get off to a good start and than fade. He always fades. He was fading against Margarito, but Margarito was too badly hurt himself and hot not done anything to justify the fight to keep on going.
