Weidman is a bit new to the submission game to be getting into a grappling contest with Maia but he looked really, really sharp at the ADCC trials a few years back and he's certainly grown since then and I think he can manage on the ground and do damage on the feet. Give me Weidman in this one.
It's the age old question, how does Maia get an All American down on the matt, and who's not to shabby on the feet either. Doesn't Chris train with Matt Serra as well?
I tend to agree, Maia hasn't subbed anybody in about 6 fights so people are cautious of his skills and beating Maia on the feet or earning a UD is certainly possible.
If Maia can't take down a top class wrestler then does his jits come into play? Does Wiedman beieve in his wrestling too much and end up in guard? If its standing will Weidman win as Maia's striking has seen improvement? Given that Maia was preparing for a striker, I wouldn't be suprised if his hands have improved further.
maias stand up is getting better every fight, he rocket munoz, and weidman is a wrestler but i see him standing against maia, but t some point it will go to the ground..I wanna see if maia can sub him, or if weidman is forreal.
Weidman for me. There is no way Maia is getting him to the matt and I think Chris' stand up is the better of the two.
I haven't seen Weidman fight, but he must have really good stand-up since everyone seems to give him the edge on that department over Maia, even when Maia more than held his own on his feet vs a killer like Munoz. It looks to me that Weidman, although a wrestler, won't risk taking Maia down (unless he chooses to take Maia down and then let go, just to score a takedown for the judges' eyes). So his gameplan would be to stay on his feet. Do you guys think he's that much better than Maia on his feet? :think
weidman will do whatever he wants against maia. Weidmans standup is better than munoz. Hes alot more relaxed and can counter fight whereas munoz is just straight forward.
Do whatever he wants means he will toy with Maia? :think PS: I'm about to watch Weidman's fight with Lawlor, see if I can get anything from that.
