Facebook, twitter, blogs, viral videos. The immediacy with which information is disseminated to large populations: I know the boxing community is small, but it doesn't really seem to take much to get the ball rolling.

How much, if any, impact do you think a loud, aggressive boycott of these two would be if they choose to avoid one another again?

wouldnt work. the larger part of the PPV revenue comes from casual fans, not hardcore fans like us.

If the campaign were aggressive enough, then possibly. Even if it doesn't work, the threat of a publicized boycott would send a message to the promoters, managers, and fighters about how the market will respond to the absence of the fight.

But if there was a concerted, directed, publicized effort to boycott their next set of fights, I think it could create some impact. Look at how quickly SOPA and PIPA, ciculated, or Antoine Dodson. It already has some buzz about it. If you get the media heads to help drum it up, it could be quite interesting.

Nope. Just don't have the numbers to make a boycott effective. Diehards are GREATLY outnumbers by the casuals, who make the brunt of the PPV buys.

This. I think it would make some impact, but not enough to push them into making the fight before they finally want to.

the casual fans are upset about this fight not coming off as well, I hear it all the time, and like you said, the LARGER part, not the whole part. to answer the original question, of course it would work, to an extent. what Gander said still holds some weight, and might cause a snag, but nevertheless there are many boxing fans out there, across the world, and after years of being jerked around, many would be willing to boycott manny and floyd's fights.

Make this big on facebook, send messages to boxers, websites, newspapers... Come on, if 1763875176 people can join the group ,,i slept with tiger woods" why wouldn't they join to boycott group.
Just do sth dumb, fat americans. It's practically your fault that because of your stupidity and inactivity may's and arum's purses are getting bigger and bigger.

They're killing boxing and you just do nothing, I don't get it.

Maybe a publicized boycott is a bandwagon casuals can jump on? They're probably not over eager to spend the money each time out, so if they start thinking it's not worth their time, it could affect their spending choices, or which PPV's they buy.

Why do the majority of people here keep bringing up casuals vs. diehards? It's about getting a message across. The casuals can't keep us from talking. And a lot of them are on our side anyway. A lot of you are clever and have excellent communication skills. Put them to good use rather than be so passionate about dissing each other. I'd rather see people protesting Pac/Floyd than NBA players complaining about their salary not being extravagant enough. I see lame ass viral videos on YouTube all the time. Would love to see something that involves a movement for the greater good in boxing.

That's what I'm saying, too. I think the fact they're casual fans can make a type of viral/guerilla marketing method on facebook, twitter, etc even MORE effective on them, because they don't know the sport enough. But if they catch of whiff of what these two are doing, it may just work.
