Is Roy Jones Jr. Hurting his Legacy by Continuing on?

Once again smilies do not give your post crediability. Quite frankly, your blatant disrespect for an all time great already proves your knowledge on the sport of boxing.

 

If you think hanging on too long hurts a legacy, then you really don't know boxing well.

At that point you would have to rate guys like Sanchez and Marciano number one pound for pound.

All the greats stuck around too long. After their prime is over, i stop counting those fights against their career.

did u actually watch nunn vs toney he was far from handling james michael had an early lead but james was steady closing distance an was begning to dictate pace before ko second thing to try to use nunn to dimminish james value is lame in itself cuz he to is future hof who also had great ability,also no doubt benn vs roy would have benn sweet as well as eubanks those results definitly debatable that is the down fall of politics an promoters has nuthn to do with roys bone structure you dumb ****

 

The McCallum who fought Jones was a washed up fatty in his 40s. Not the peak one that fought a 16-fight novice in Collins.

If he retired after Ruiz or Tarver 1, he could have been a top 5 ATG.

Normally losses late in your career shouldn't affect it. But I think it has, because alot of people now think Roy was always flawed and chinny, and cherry picked, and was finally exposed.

Personally I don't believe that. And think Roy Jones is a top 20 ATG

I dont enjoy him getting KO'd over and over again, but I think it makes sense to say Roy Jones was a bit of a businessman and planned his career accordingly. The moving up in weights was clearly a PR-project, and he was caught using steroids, which tells us something about him.

I also remember reading something about how he tried to avoid a rematch with Tarver for as long as he could.

 

Thing is, RJJ was never chinny to begin with and it was only up until his first KO loss is when it started to show.

He took a bomb of a left hook in the Toney fight and he just stood there like nothing happened, I can't remember the round or anything but its there.

People who think that he was hiding a glass chin are foolish and need to see his reactions of getting hit before the Tarver KO.

 

He hurt it when he took steroids.

 

He was taking those from the beginning because he had knee problems.

 

He hurt his legacy most by fighting some totally dreadful unknown opponentswhen he was the so called P4P#1. People cry when Money fought Ortiz or Pac fought Clottey but look at some of his 175lbs opponents.

 

Finally a chin checker. Yes i agree with the above statement. And when the day came for him to step up, he fell down hard

Feather fisted Lou Del Valle put him on his ass with a glancing blow, the guy always had a Fragile Glass Jaw and your revisionist history will not change this. As scholar and gent Alien noted above, what hurts Roid's legacy the most are the numerous duckjobs he pulled while picking off vacant and otherwise worthless titles closely followed by his proven drug cheating AND the embarrassing KOs he suffered as a result of his Glass Jaw. He is a Glass Jawed Fraud and the Chincheckers will continue to point this out and laugh when he is starched violently by increasingly mediocre fighters.

I usually stay out of these debates but I will say this: His legacy was hurt a long time ago when he didnt make any of those big fights (Benn,Eubank,MCClellan,Hopkins circa 2002 etc...) and for As Toney, Toney lost that fight at the scales....Hopkins wasnt the Executioner yet and Michalewz (not sure how to spell his name) BOTH were scared,MCCLELLAN beat him in the amateurs. RJJ in my humble opinion was an ATG talent and career was somewhat disappointment as far as opponents go..
