Everytime I hear one of these so called glass jaw experts calling pro fighters frauds or cowards, just pretty much pisses me off! Knowing damn well they wont step foot into the gym and compete!

 

Some of the same **** is said in gyms by actual fighters; accept people are way less disrespectful with each other when giving their opinions. I guarantee you the disrespectful overly obsessive fan boys here on ESB have never even been inside a boxing gym.

 

What differentiates discerning fans from uncritical hero-worshiping fanboys is a willingness to call it as they see it. If a fighter is crappy, if they dog it, if they are overrated, or if they have a glass jaw - the critical analyst will call it as they see it. The fanboy will simply continue his blind hero-worshiping.

To be honest, I enjoy hating on certain fighters, but it is usually just for grins due to the strong emotional response from their fanboys. British fans are usually the most entertaining simply because many quickly degenerate into childish tantrums anytime their favorite fighters ATG status is questioned (i.e. Calzaghe and Lewis fans).

Personally, I also have an animosity towards fans that attempt to elevate their favorite fighter by thrashing an established ATG. I have seen fans of Pac attempt to make the case that Pac would crush Hearns; Lewis would decapitate a prime Holmes etc, etc.

Also, there are contemporary fighters that are truthfully overrated. Since you mention Cotto, he is an excellent example of an overrated fighter...ever see the Paulie fight...cringe. There is no goddamned way Cotto deserves a big money fight with Pac or Money; he should have to get his **** pushed in by Sergio...another overrated fighter.

Lastly, in the interest of disclosure: I am an overweight middle-aged guy that would get my ass kicked by any guy I hate on. So what? The upper tier of professional fighters may risk their health but they also are paid an insane amount of money and pull down the choicest pieces of ass and if they or their fans can't handle a little hate or even mild criticism, **** 'EM!!!:blurp

Okay...I lied about lastly; I have laced them up in my lifetime (got my ass kicked on more than one occasion as well), but if a fan has not, it doesn't mean that they do not have a right to criticize. There are many baseball fans that are brutal in their criticism players that have never stepped up to the plate and are free to criticize as fans. The people that pay the salaries to these athletes by purchasing tickets or ppv's should criticize if they haven't been given their money's worth or if a fighter has made a career out of fighting bums-RJJ. The sport needs criticism more than whiny fanboys attempting to rewrite history.

Okay we are all guilty of this, but every other post calls everyone fat loser geeks.... believe it or not its not 1995 anymore, there are people on the internet who don't jerk off to Metroid. Most of us have good if not great lives, and are not projecting anything, they just enjoy analyzing fighters and most of the insults are to hear someone disprove them.

 

The hate could be worse. As much as I love football, players get death threats and a L.S.U. fan in NOLA got tea-bagged just for wearing his teams attire .
