Does Boxing need a Bosman style case to clean up the sport?

I thought I'd look up the IBO rankings to see if they had a new champion.

Their top 10 has me in stitches.

No. We wouldn't be able to create super star World champions like Haye and Hatton with only 1 recognised champion, it would totally kill the sport. The average fan doesn't want this at all despite thinking he wants the total opposite. Haye vs Valuev 800'000 ppv's, Hatton constantly selling out the Men Arena defending his joke WBU title etc. The average fan in the street doesn't know ****. 1.4 million paying to see Hatton get slaughtered by Mayweather on PPV? You're having a laugh.

It's not the four 'world' titles that bother me - it's the interim titles, regular world titles, super world titles, world emeritus, world champion in rescess etc. If there were four alphaworld titles and the top 10 guys fought each other regularly in most - if not every - division, I'd be a happy Scot.

Well, as happy as a Scot can be really.

 Like way Enzo's found his way into top 10.

There are a few laughable entries there, but Enzo's is the best. Wonder if Allegedly can secure Enzo an IBO title shot and then have the much wanted WBO/IBO Super Welsh Dragon Unification bout between Enzo and Clev?

The reality is that every promoter and broadcaster needs title fights to sell shows. As long as that demand is there the sanctioning bodies will flourish.

The dream scenario is that a very courageous and marketable unified heavyweight champion in the mold of a young Tyson or Ali will make a stand and ditch all of the belts, perhaps hanging on to the Ring belt as sole claimant to the throne. If there is enough media and public support perhaps the move could cascade down through the weight divisions.

As I said, 'dream' scenario sadly.

The Ring belt would be first one I would throw away, that belt has lost all credibility since Goldenboy acquired The Ring, much like the magazine.

There will always be titles for the reasons that you state. I would like to see more tourneys like the Supersix.

You are right but at least there are no sanctioning fees for that belt and regardless of the corporate and political shenanigans at the magazine it isn't as tarnished as the major governing bodies. It is also looks about ten times better than those other gaudy baubles.

I would fully support ANYTHING that gets rid of ALL minor belts. Ideally the WBC and WBA remain because I think big unification fights are big business, big hype, big fights etc Plus both orgs are rooted in the old school orgs that ran boxing.

WBO, IBF, IBO, IBU, WBU, interim, super, gold, silver, diamond.... get rid of all of them.

The sport has self destructed. If fighters wanted to completely embrace a new system i.e. ditching all the belts for The Ring title then I would support it as long as it was universal. All the belts have no credibility.

The WBC and WBA have massacred the history they are rooted in and they are the devil of our sport.

Hopefully some boxers sue them and the belts go under like the WBC nearly did.
