Is pac really making more money?

Recently, John Chavez of TheBoxingTruth.com contacted the Nevada State Athletic Commission to acquire the reported purse amounts of both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. According to the official documents, which are public record and have been verified by Executive Director Keith Kizer, the numbers are alarmingly lopsided. It appears that over the past 6 years, the combined total of Pacquiao's purses are a mere fraction of what Mayweather has earned over the same time period and in almost half the number of fights. It should be noted that in 2010, Pacquiao had two fights [vs. Joshua Clottey and vs. Antonio Margarito] outside of NSAC's jurisdiction, therefore those numbers are not included in the totals. That being said, one can assume that his purse for each bout was probably no greater than the $7.4 million he averaged in 2009 and no less than the $6 million he averaged in 2011. According to those figures, Manny Pacquiao's officially reported purses have been, on average, roughly half of what Floyd Mayweather has been getting. Although the documents do not disclose revenue also generated from pay-per-view upside, it's extremely doubtful that Pacquiao is getting significantly more than Mayweather in that department, especially considering that they both do similar numbers and in Pacquiao's case, Top Rank retains 27.5%. While I personally believe the subject of a 50/50 split is irrelevant, mainly because Bob Arum was never interested in staging the fight on May 5 to begin with, given those numbers, it's understandable why Mayweather might allegedly inform Pacquiao that a $40 million guarantee would be significantly more money than he's been currently making. Regardless, one can't help but wonder exactly why Pacquiao's purse amounts being reported to the Nevada State Athletic Commission are significantly lower than Mayweather's purses.

Now is it a fact that Floyd is earning twice the money Pac has? Hell yeah (largely due Arum butt-raping Manny).
But I do think Floyd should consider 50/50 or 52/48.

Who cares, really? He lives in the Philippines and spends pesos like a King....Aside from his endless worldwide endorsements, commercials, movies, appearances...etc...add the PPV as well....he's got enough to last a lifetime....Floyd ain't got $ outside of the ring. Dan Rafael is a Floyd lover...I wonder what he makes?

 

So you think the NSAC is putting out false information, or that they request it just for shits and giggles? It's obviously an issue, so it's fair game for discussion.

 

Sports in general have become big business, if you don't have familiarity with business of sports, it can be difficult to follow. Why your favorite player is getting cut, why a star player is being traded, why your hometown team is relocating....etc etc. It has become very relevant to sports in general and boxing obviously is impacted as much or more.

 

REgisted purse to NSAC is not the entire earnings as it is not legally required to register to the commission other source of revenues beyond direct purse payment. Things like PPV, promotional fees, gate, souvenirs, concession stands, etc.

Those other revenues must be declared to IRS and Nevada state.
And those 2 are not the same as NSAC.

PBF only quotes Pac's direct purse.

this figure (and probly along the other numbers reported by NSAC) is just the downside guarantee that TR/Pacquiao declared. His recent PPV has been sellers so it's more likely that he got what was publicly mentioned as the upside guarantee.

...and I have a feeling that whatever Floyd was gurateeing for himself, which in a way is silly, is exaggerated.

 

It seems HBO exagerrated Pac's purses. Until I see a similar NSAC file reporting Floyd's supposed guarantees, I'm going to think what's being reported is an exaggeration as well.

In any case, the standout figures for now for 2011 are these:

This is funny as Golden Boy Promotions claimed that Arum hid Pac's earnings from fights

 

And I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find out that he did. These are only his base purse amounts submitted to the NSAC before each fight, and they're not even close to what he actually gets paid.

 

A guaranteed salary is the based salary he would make without the perks, bonuses, PPV $$$, etc.

Just like in any entertainment field....Julia Roberts makes 20 million per movie guaranteed, but she still gets residuals, box office sells, etc. on top of her "salary".

Athletes contracts are the same...Thats why the NFL has guaranteed salary plus incentives...!!!

The only money you must declare is the guaranteed salary, due to not knowing what the gate, tv deals, ppv #s are going to be****(1)



****(1) When the incentives are finally disclosed, that money MUST then be reported to the proper channels, Commission, IRS, etc.

 

it just shows that it isn't about the money for pac. its about being f fffffff fair.
