I like that interview Kugan Cassius, always seems to get decent interviews.

I saw Danny Hughes was sparring with him earlier. I haven't seen Danny fight for a while, but he seems to be getting some very good sparring recently, I just wish he'd get into good shape.

He lost loads of weight last year, must have been a few stone and looked in the best shape I've seen him in:

He seemed a lot more motivated last time I spoke to him so hopefully he'll be on the right track and start working his way up the rankings, think he's no11 in Britain at the minute so he's probably on the verge of a couple of decent fights if he can get on a winning run.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get him fights with any of Oliibamiwu, McDermott, Towers, Sexton, Rogan, Dallas etc in the next year

Del Boy has got no chance, which is a shame.

Yeah he's lost a few stone, but there's still a lot more that could be done.

I keep hearing how bad the heavies are today, could someone provide a breakdown of why? The same was said of every era.

The only problem is the best dont fight the best...D. Boystov has 29 fights and been rated for a long time by the orgs and has yet to face a top 10.

    M. Sprott resume is the best around...why because he has fought everyone, but it is an incredible shame that a journeyman has better opponents than many top talents.

Could anyone provide me a list of the top 30 heavyweights of 1974 which is in my book would have the hottest period of the 70s. Tried to look at the ring mag and stuff but cant find any.

My reasoning is that D. Chisora is a tough customer, with normal boxing skills and physical attributes, i can think that Gary Mason is the same type, Derek getting a title shot and Gary never did..which i suppose shows the calibre of fighters that get title shots...C. Boswell, A. Sosnowski?

In my mind Derek has fought a top prospect in T. Fury, a domestic top guy in S. Sexton, a washed up contender in D. Williams and what many thought was a top ten heavy in R. Helenius. Its a pretty weak list for garning a world title shot.

But then D. Cockerill, L. Spinks, A. Godoy, Rademacker, J. Ferguson all got title shots.

Any fighter has a chance, there is no such thing as certainty not when boxing or combat sport is involved. The only thing that separates great fighters from average ones is the 'consistency' of 'top performances'.

If I showed a newbie a tape of Ali against Wepner...people would laugh, 'what he is one of the best ever?'...Ali was great becuase he had at least 10-15 incredible performances against a variety of opponents.

    D. Chisora has had only 17 fights, the only good fighters he has faced are a shot D. Williams, S. Sexton twice, T. Fury, R. Helenius....he has had mixed results, what we can see is that when motivated he employs good head movement, decent physically but dosent have that huge knock out power. The problems lies in the fact that Dereck is not better than Solis or Arreola or the vast majority of opponents that Vitali had fought and beaten..which leads people to think he has no chance.

Vitali though is there for the taking more so than Wlad...you need a fighter that has the knock out power, and the abilty to apply that..also add in that Vitali could get old over night, as we have seen in boxing history.

I predict though that Vitali wins on points..

Silly post. Strip every ounce of fat off Dereck and he's still over 225. He's the most natural HW under around under 6'2".

    1. Brave yes but there is probably 250k in it for him minimum. He loses? So what as long as he isnt blasted out in the first few rounds, his stock rises and he goes back to Euro/British scene.
    2. Chisora is looking in good shape. Yes he is but you wouldnt want him sub 230lbs. Certainly losing some weight can increase punch power for heavies, but he is relatively mobile at 240lbs.
    3. Does he have a chance? Ok Adamek got whooped but he went the distance. Perfectly plausible Del boy does too and can pick up a few rounds. Highly unlikely he KOs Vitali, as he isnt a huge puncher, but there is always a chance.
