    Hey Guys

I want your honest opinion's If you where the money guy in your divison, would you really risk losing, by fighting tough elite higher risk guy's, when you could get paid the SAME amount fighting second tier opposition?

Honestly from a fighters point of view....because it is easy for us to say we want the best to face the best...but Ward got paid $900,000 and Froch got $600,000 from Showtime....guys like Bute, Berto, Roy Jones Jr, some even say Floyd and Pacquiao...can fight guys not close to their level and get serious money by the networks...(this is not including PPV numbers).

Let me hear your thoughts brothers...thanks

Wat? Are you serious? It is to be expected that you fight others close to and in your level of skill and in their primes. If a top fighter choses to ignore top opponents, then he should be prepaired to take tough criticisim.

I understand that and I agree but, I'm not a active fighter with a family to feed or putting my life at risk...my thread is a question, not my personal belief.
    Thanks for your post though.

with 4 titles and all kinds of ways to avoid ppl in modern boxing, if your making huge money without the risk of defeat why not

though if you get beat by one of the bottom barrel guys it will be bad fall out

If i believed i was the best, then i would fight the guys at the top to prove it. I would want to be remembered. I would not care too much about a loss on my record. That's the problem these days, fighters get to make a fortune when they are not even that good.

I love how armchair promoters would make every fight 50/50 and do it "for the fans" if they were fighting.
Unless you're in the elite bracket you're entitled to have home fights against opponents who only have to be ranked at least once a year. It's a short and dangerous career, and you should make as much as you can AND try to build a legacy.
Anyone who thinks they would make every fight a high risk, all or nothing affair should ask themselves what they'd think if they had a wife and kids, and if they do have a family and say they'd still only care about the fans, then I'd tend not to believe them.

I would probably just leave it up to my promotor, Bob Arum :D

Seriously though, I can't honestly say I would, as much as I believe I would right now. I'm sure most boxers were not thinking about money when they first joined or as they moved up the lower ranks, as there is basically no money to be made until you get to the high level. I think its the desire to be the best and to prove yourself that gets you to the top but once fighters get a taste of the money, they forget all about that.

If guys like Floyd or Pac fights tuneups they'd get crucified. Usually once you reach that level, you take the most profitable "easy" fight and hype it up as being a competitive "fight of the year" type event.

It depends. If I knew that I could beat the best guys in the division or had faith that I would get a fair chance, I would.

But I wouldn't go to England to fight a guy like Ricky Hatton, or to US to fight a guy like Williams, etc.

I can see why other fighters do it. Personally, I wouldn't do it because that is how I am. I would always want to fight the best fighters. I did the same thing when I use to spar. I always wanted to go against the best boxers in the gym. That is why I got my ass kicked in my first sparring session.

Yes, as Ricky Hatton said when asked about the Pacquiao fight "Of course. What are we doing in the game for?!"

Why call yourself a proud pro boxer and put all that work in if you suddenly want to play it safe when a real challenge pops up and you get the chance to put your name out there and establish yourself?

from the time fighters are amateurs, they fight to prove they are the best.... thats the mentality of most....
Roy aint getting big money no more..how much do you think he got for max alexander?
he may have gotten a decent payday going to russia

a handful of guys make real serious money....its ridiculous mayweather got 40 mil vs ortiz and ward and froch under 1 mill and they fought in a tournament against top level guys to get that pay day....
