Some kind of sensor to attach to wrist of boxers glove to measure speen and force of punches in real time over at BDL
I started a thread asking if this would be a good idea a few years back. Not much interest on the forum about it. I still think it could be informative. Some might wake up to the 'pity-pat' **** that they think are scoring blows. Where is important also.
Alright I posted in the other thread about this subject before Boxing Girl deleted it. This is a total ****ing gimick. You cannot measure force by measuring vibration unless you know the exact weight, density and momentum of the item striking and the item you are imparting the force upon. Which is impossible for sports fans. Sorry guys but its never gonna happen. The best you can hope for is to measure speed via sensors like the ones used for animation modelling in CGI and a video recording with a high frame rate. As for weight imparted onto the object (the other half of force) it's impossible. There is a reason why we use static pads with a known density and sensors within them as the object to impart force upon. Add to that the different vibration signatures from different fighters bone, muscle and tissue densities (both the striker and the victim) plus a million different angles to hit the object from. Want more? Changes in body water levels will **** up your readings. Brain and liver are full of water, dehydration during a fight will change the readings. Vibrations from the ring, from crowd noise, from varying materials of gloves, stomping your feet while punching....the **** goes on and on. and thats what I can think of while blind drunk. Also because this is a crock of **** you can bet the numbers will be manipulated to suit any agenda that the people at HBO wish to push.
stats stats and more stats! Can't they just call the damn fight instead of reading numbers all the time?? So now we'll have compubox **** AND this new thing! Just call the action and give us the numbers after the fight.
Don't worry guys. The casual fans will get caught up in it so just melt into their enthusiasm. Ignorance is bliss.
