Least excited I've been for a Floyd Mayweather fight since Baldomir

As far as Mayweather-Cotto goes:

* Should make good money, should easily outsell Pac-Bradley
* Take Cotto away from Arum and Pac, or diminish him for possible Pac-Cotto II
* Should be pretty easy work for PBF. Never thought Cotto could beat Floyd

It's about as good a non-Pac match-up for Floyd as exists at the time.

Even though i agree with most things youve said here i do not think its fair to compare the JMM of the Floyd fight and the Pac3 fight.
JMM was flabby and obviously did not go up in weight the right way.
Vs Pac he looked ripped and solid and went about gaining the weight much differently (which has also been clearly documented)

Don't get me wrong i think Floyd wins regardless but i dont think its fair to compare it like its the same JMM in both fights.

 

Void is fighting Cotto @ 154! Why not Martinez @ 154? Is it because Sergio would spank Void's ass?

Cotto has always been a good fighter, but never elite. His limitations have shown throughout the years, plus he is on the tail-end of his career right now.

Canelo is a bit green, but the size and youth advantage he would have brought, plus all the hype he brings from Mexico would have made it a more interesting fight.

I think Cotto is going to look real bad this fight. And by bad I mean...bad.

 

Martinez offered 150, Martinez is also fighting in March. Easy, right? :think

 

Oscar was a good win, but he was past it, and that was his last hurrah. Never looked as good again. A good win fro Mayweather.

Hatton was overmatched and was very pedestrian at 147. Without the ability to wrestle Mayweather into submission, he had no shot when it came down to having to box him.

JMM- a LW. Undersized and outgunned, regardless of the lay off for Mayweather.

Mosley- beaten by Cotto, although years before, and Mosley was what, 38? Not a bad win though.

Ortiz- young, and hungry, but after Maidana and a draw to Peterson, Berto was hardly enough in my mind to get a Mayweather fight. Didn't embarrass himself, but didn't have as much of a chance as I'd give Cotto now.

Cotto, while not prime, is skilled and on a level size wise. A capable new trainer and renewed confidence may have brought a bit of a renaissance to his career. No mismatch here. A quality opponent.

I wouldn't exactly call that survival mode, he fought thru a nasty cut, could have had the fight stopped when ahead on the cards, but did not. Clottey did let that slip away though.

Plus at Cotto's weight. One of the rare times of late that I feel Mayweather deserves praise for his choice. Next best thing in my book to Mayweather-Pacquiao

lets see the common opponent:

Alfonso gomez vs cotto? gets destroyed

Older alfonso gomez vs Canelo? gives him more trouble than anybody

 

I disagree heavily... I think it's a good, intriguing fight. Better than Mosley, Hatton, and Ortiz.

Cotto beat Mosley, Cotto is much bigger and stronger than Hatton, and Cotto is more proven and has a better resume than Ortiz. Not to mention Floyd is facing the challenge of moving up in weight to a weight class that Cotto has never lost in.

Will be one of Floyd's top 5 best fights for sure.

 

Cotto is an elite fighter but a shadow of his former self after the Margarito beating. Should be an easy Mayweather win but Cotto can bang.

 

if nothing else, he is fighting boxing's 3rd biggest draw while waiting for Khan and Canelo to continue to develop instead of picking them off too early.
A healthy Cotto as well.

I would make this Cotto a favorite over that version of Oscar. Oscar was a part time fighter by then. Everybody calling Cotto shot, blah blah are a bunch of idiots. He was a good win for Pac, and would be a good win for Floyd

back in the day, the old school guys used to fight every other month. Sometimes they fought guys who were shot, sometimes they fought when they themselves where shot and fought guys in their primes.

point is, fighters have to fight. who gives a **** if cotto is not in his prime. just shut the fark up and enjoy what the fight can produce in terms of action. as a true boxing fan, i appreciate this fight regardless if cotto is past his prime. Floyd is 34 and not a spring chicken either despite the fact he has not been in any wars.
