for the cotto fans, do you guys think that cotto has a true shot here? I'm a big cotto fan, but i'm not too stoked about him fighting mayweather. Yes thats good he gets a payday and all, but lets be honest cotto doesn't go into fights to lose. At this state, in cotto's career, i wouldn't say he's shot but can he and his trainer come up with a solid game plan with the skills, ring IQ, and current determination miguel possess at this point in his career?
Cotto definitely has a shot. IMO what he has been lacking is a willingness to engage and take on the punishment that may come from being an aggressor. At 154, it's a smarter move to be more of a boxer, but against Floyd, he's going to have to make sure he mixes in his boxing skills fluidly with his powerful offense like he used to in his prime if he wants to be competitive. He has picked up some sharpened skills and reinforced fundamentals, but he can't be discouraged in moments where Mayweather may start timing him or efficiently back-stepping out of range. I could see a prime Cotto eating a right hand counter for example, and still getting off one or two shots on the inside that do damage. Nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised if a shot like that made him pause and need to reset. It's mostly a mental issue for me, and if he can come in with the right mental and physical preparation, then he'll have the best of both worlds at his disposal. Another thing going for him is that while Mayweather is great on the inside against pressure fighters, a lot of his opponents tend to smother their own offense in their desperation to get to him. Cotto is a patient combination puncher who picks his shots and times them well when chest to chest with an opponent, and doesn't readily fall into a clinch. If he can corner Floyd in spots with feints, jabs, and a varied offense, he can land hard punches on the inside and possibly score the more eye-catching shots, even if Floyd lands more efficiently. Confusing Mayweather by backing up at times and boxing and moving working off that hard, well-timed jab is something they should be ready to do as well, perhaps tricking Floyd into comfortably coming forward at times.
Cotto could do it, he's got an awesome jab & a horrible left hook to the body, he'd have to stop Floyd (no way he's gonna get a decision in Vegas) & I just can't see him stopping Mayweather
I'm not a Cotto(e)-fan but i'm posting here anyway This content is protected Kneegal Quitto has no chance. None. He will quit again.
Thats not right LOL but funny I am a cotto fan and I just dont see him wining this one he had a hard time getting at margarito
id hate to see a repeat of mayweather baldomir.... just hope may's slowed down a tad to make this a truly competitive fight..
For someone who most likely never fought a day in his life, you sure are a c u n t...cotto would make you his kneegal so i don't see how you can talk trash about another fighter
I think he has a better shot than Ortiz did, but I think Mayweather will be able to adjust and figure out Cotto by the middle rounds sadly.
I think May is probably on the slide a bit too...Plus the extra weight doesn't help him IMO. That being said it's a long shot but something I will be praying to Juan el Bautista for.
We think alike. Cotto will need to pull out a vintage performance (and remember his devastating body attack) but it is possible. He's a longshot, but not a lamb being led to the slaughter. War Cotto!
