What should Cotto do to neutralize Floyd's significant advantage in speed?

    Its tough

does he move a lot like he did vs Margarito and engage less and give Floyd less opportunity

well he isnt gonna win that way

Or does he come right to Floyd and see how Floyd handles the left hook to the body get to him early and try to do damage in the early stages where Floyd is usually in feel out mode

Cotto vs Pac- yes Pac isnt Floyd but he has the same kind of speed and athletic ability, Cotto was able to hit Pac and at times could make Pac miss, he won a few rounds but took a beating

Floyd will not pressure and attack Cotto in the same way that Pac did, Pac moved a lot vs Cotto made it hard to track him down

Floyd in his last 2 or 3 bouts is more stationary more flat footed, can Cotto do anything about this or will Floyd just pick him apart and make him miss from up close

Cotto- obviously 154 is a much better weight and he has a new trainer and all that drama in his life is gone so maybe this is better

but also Cotto is now older, slower, more shop worn, and from what ive seen lately he can get discouraged or look nervous in there, maybe im the only one who sees it but look at his face after a tough round or a round where he is hurt

I think Floyd needs to hit the body, Margo and Mayorga body shots got his attention

Cotto needs to be smart, he fought Pac very tough and had moments

vs Floyd he will probably have moments early like he did vs Pac

he may win round 1 and score in rounds 2-4 but from 5 on I think Floyd kicks in and dominates

Cotto gonna have to push Floyd back to be effective-He'll have to use his jab ALOT-

I expect Floyd to fight a lot like he did with Oscar-picking off shots and looking for openings-

I also expect Floyds right uppercut to come underneath any lazy jab Cotto throws-

Cotto does have a very strong jab which is good-He'll need to invest in the body as Cotto is the slower fighter.

Floyd is not unbeatable. He doesn't throw combinations as much these days and is intent on potshotting most of the time. Cotto has underrated defense and will pick off potshots. This will lead to the two getting into exchanges more often than previously thought and whoever gets the best of them, will win the fight. Cotto is worlds better than Ortiz and won't be smothering his shots when exchanging like Ortiz did.

We're in for a great fight folks, no matter how much the *****s and *******s try to spin it to suit their hero.

Cotto needs to dig to the body and bang on Mayweather's arms if they are in the way. Mayweather has stood his ground and fought a little more in his last two bouts and Cotto needs to hope he does the same this time. He still packs some thunder, but needs to be in range for it to land.

    War Cotto!

If Floyd throws that right uppercut from far out like he has been lately, he runs the risk of eating a Cotto left hook. I didn't like those uppercuts Floyd was throwing when facing Ortiz.

Rough him up, but without obviously intentional headbutts.

Land a big one early. In other words take risks early in the fight and try to jump on a lead. Easier said than done, but that psychological edge of being up will help him be more relaxed, take his time, possibly even dictating the action. With a lil bit of luck midrounds, if he still holds a lead, he should slow it down try to box and be a counterpuncher and focus on Floyd taking chances. If he feels he has a 2-3 round lead by the latter rounds, he should then turn on the gas and fight Floyd head-on as Floyd gets more urgent. Of course all this is based on alot of wishful thinking. But if Cotto can manage to get a lead within the first few rounds, I really feel he has a good chance to win.

Honestly is there a single fighter out there you would rather see pull of the biggest upset in boxing than Miguel Cotto. Likeable guy, I wish him the best.

Too bad, there's no chance in hell he'll beat Floyd.

Keep throwing left hooks on Floyd's right arm, do not care if you're not landing anything (because you won't) and hope that two judges will love your agression.

Facts say otherwise. Seriously though, that's what makes things interesting.

Watch the Ortiz fight and then say the above with a straight face. Ortiz was getting hit with so many combos that he lost his **** and went pogo on Floyd.

He then ended up being served the best two piece in the game for his trouble!

I think he's gonna have to have some faith and confidence in his chin, get inside and mix it up with Floyd. If he lets Floyd get off first he's gonna get raped, if he's overly aggressive yes he will get countered...but in exchange he'll get some chances to bang on Floyd. I think he's going to have to come at Floyd and not get discouraged by being countered.

His best weapons against Mayweather will be that strong, stiff jab and his body punching. He's also a good combination puncher which is important because nobody comes close to touching Floyd loading up on single shots. Basically, he has to fight somewhat like Castillo did, applying smart pressure which Cotto knows how to do. Ofcourse Mayweather is better than he was then, but Cotto is also better than Castillo was.

Don't get me wrong, i favor Floyd to win but i think the style match-up is very interesting.
