Again this is focusing solely on what Foreman is going to do while dangerously ignoring what Mike Tyson himself is capable of doing. Citing the uppercut as his primary weapon to me suggests that you are looking at this the wrong way. The upper is an inherently difficult punch to land in boxing and against a fighter with stellar defense and top flight countering ability it may not work as planned.

Tyson is not going to fight him strictly on the outside, and Foreman didn't have the kind of jab that would keep him there either. Make no mistake about it, Tyson will fight him close. The faster hands in this fight is essenticalyl going to be the difference maker and assuming George is allowed to shove Mike; the only that will do is prolong the fight.

Foreman was no Pernell Whitaker but he was a bit better from a technical standpoint that he gets credit for.

I think this would be the biggest non-factor in the fight.

If someone lasted a few rounds with Tyson, the fight would go to a decision, so let's not act like foreman was the only one.

    Ha ha ha!

I've said enough about Frazier and Foreman, prime for prime, situation and circumstance, punch for punch. Respected opinions on this forum have Foremanized me into a bloody mess but I got off the canvas and tipped my hat!

    As for the thread.

I think Tyson 88 Tyson is quick enough to hurt George early and maybe drop him. He has the superior hand and foot speed. Young Tyson was crisp in the early rounds, moved his head from side to side, used the jab to get inside and followed it up with the right hand. Consistently. Whether it was to the body or head, the right hand was always coming. His movement wasn't so much bob and weave like Joe, but more side to side, dipping the shoulders.

I think George's reach would still be too much for Mike and his jab is underrated too. It's very heavy with decent speed though not sharp like Listons. If the ref allows George to push and shove like he did to Frazier, it's bombs away and Mike is done. I'd give Tyson the benefit of being a faster starter than Frazier and he wouldn't be as vulnerable in the early rounds against some of Foreman big shots.

Could be a a Lyle vs Foreman slugfest for a couple of rounds, but I think 73 Foreman stops 88 Tyson inside 6. 76 Foreman, more disciplined under Gil Clancy might be a tougher fight for Tyson.

The question is, who would you favour the longer the fight goes on?
One mans got gas problems and the other, possible frustration/mental issues?

How do you know that was the only way to beat him though? I agree Foreman was a wrecking ball in trunks, but to think he was some untouchable, unstoppable force is wrong. This works both ways: Tyson never faced anyone like Foreman, and Foreman never faced anyone like Tyson. Many people bring up Joe Frazier how easily Foreman beat him, but Mike Tyson was not Joe Frazier. Other than height and physical size, Tyson and Frazier were not that similar. Tyson was much faster, had a better defense, had better boxing skills, and he obviously punched harder with both hands.
While I can definitely see Foreman kayoing Tyson, I can definitely see Tyson kayoing Big George. I don't think Foreman's wide open, straight up, here-I-come style of fighting would work all that well on Tyson. I still think that Tyson had more to trouble Foreman with than the other way around.

I think the punching power edge might actually go to Tyson. And in terms of who had the better punch delivery, it's Tyson by a wide margin. Still, I can definitely see Foreman toppling Tyson, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion!

1990 version of Foreman against which version of Tyson? I can't see 1990 Foreman Ko'ing any version of Tyson except for the 2002-2003 corpse that fought Lennox Lewis and Williams and McBride.

Foreman has stamina problems? He spent the second half of his career not sitting between rounds.

Both fighters are made for each other in a sense. As in no one resembling Foreman or his style was ever Tysons kryptonite and no one resembling Tyson ever gave Foreman problems.

Anyone certain of a winner either way is silly

  12. Tyson had an average chin at best. His bobbing and weaving was best in the first 5 rounds and so was his power. Foreman had a great chin only being stopped once more due to exhaustion than by power. Foreman's uppercuts are bad news for Tyson. George also had those looping body shots that did damage. George had better stamina than people give him credit for in his prime. He had almost 50 fights in his prime and got tired in 2 of them.
Foreman wouldn't be scared,Foreman was a bully,he hit harder, had a better chin, more heart and would take Mike down. I could see Prime Mike getting frustrated and going down in the middle rounds.

LOL, while fighting tomatoe cans...........and he still struggled with C level ham and eggers Stewart/Saverese/Schultz/Morrison/Briggs. Fact, and looked like a Halloween impersonator after ...............nothing changed with the first and the second version, yes, he got a little more relaxed and paced himself but he was always slowwwwwwwwww, why do you think Ali called him the "Mummy", lol, because he was a speed demon ?

He was a punching bag against Holyfield aand Moorer, again all swollen up by two medium HWT punchers until he landed the lucky one on another glasschinned Light heavyweight........you ain't defeating Tyson with your face as your shield.

His defense/reflexes was/is very suspect aka almost non existing, his defense is his offense.......he got hit with lead right hands AT WILL by Ali, the ultimate insult to ANY elite Pro

Tyson is way to fast and elusive for George, he will beat him consistantly to the punch, you can ask ANYBODY in the Biz who has seen Tyson spar/fight in his heyday and going toe to toe with him is absolut suicide and that what Foreman would, its his only way of fighting.

Buster did not go toe to toe.......Evander with a granite chin did not go toe to toe against a washed up version....Lemmie weak ass chin did not go toe to toe with the drugged shot beyond shot Tyson impersonator.

Now to some myths, Tyson is a midrange not a in fighter, lol, so he broke strong as a ox Razor Ruddocks ribs from midrange ? Lol.

Now to the Frazier reference...........Joe is 1-4 in his sig fights , I repeat, he won ONE against a rusty comebacking Ali, lost two more while being stopped once and then totally manhandled again twice in uncompetitive fashion . RIP Frazier but he was not that good when he stepped up, the proof is in the pudding and as a reminder, how many times was he wobbled /knocked down by mere gatekeepers and contenders? I rest my case.

Anyway, I think Foreman is tailormade for Tyson, a big slow poor defense straight up target who comes to engage with not a lot of finesse where he can tee off at will to the body and head and if something lands in return he definitely has the chin to take a shot as he has shown countless times , no matter how good your chin is, you ain't taken flush shots from Mike on the Button, I have personally witnessed Mike spar with his favorite heavybag Oliver McCall and I can say he cracked that chin.............you guys have to really understand what kind of a enigma Tyson was until he went off the rails.....textbook execution of every punch in the book, immense hand/footspeed, great balance, strong, great chin, monster power in both hands, extremely difficult to put leather on , the ultimate Middleweight in a Heavyweight body fighter.

Great matchup and really could go either way.

If I had to bet money, I'd go with Tyson
