Huge guy, much improved striking, great ground game, arguably did more damage to Roy Nelson than either Dos Santos or Mir did. I'm pretty excited about Werdum being back. Would love to see him fight Mir next, but there are a few good fights out there for him. :bbb
Yeah agree with Mir, fight makes an unbelievable amount of sense right now. Should be a #1 contender fight too.
Frank Mir makes the clearest sense. Both guys are not in line for a title shot but have to be one, maximum 2 wins away. Werdum has underrated striking. It looks pretty average but it has been very effective. I don't think it will ever work against a genuinely sharp fighter like JDS. His guard is dangerous, full credit to Roy for surviving sub attempts and even going for a guillotine. Roy has to go to 205. He is fighting guys who are huge in comparison.
I think Werdum might just knock Mir out, and fail to give everyone this bjj match-up they seem to be dreaming of. I'd like to see Werdum and Carwin, or Werdum and Velasquez.
Mir, both got questionable chins, can knock each other out and are the best bjj guys in the hw division
Frank Mir is a very interesting fight Aside from Mir (who incidentally is also my favourite choice) there is Carwin , and Velasquez If Velasquez isnt getting big foot , then Velasquez - Werdum / Mir has to be made soon Side note , picture this on the same card ; dos Santos vs Overeem Velasquez vs Silva Mir vs Werdum Very possible :deal
Should be Werdum vs. Mir for the #1 contender spot. Mir is on a good winning streak beating Mikro, Nelson and Nogueira. Beating Werdum should clearly put him in line for the shot. Werdum is a bit trickier as he's really only on a single fight win streak, but aside from the Overeem (current #1 contender), he's on a good run as well. Mike Kyle, Antonio Silva, Emelianenko and now Nelson (again, excluding the loss to Overeem). Any other fight really doesn't make sense as it just complicates the title picture post JdS v. Overeem.
Werdum and Mir seems like a lock. Let's see who the best submission fighter in the world really is. Unfortunately it would probably resemble something much closer to a bad kickboxing match than a mundial championship match. But in terms of matching the best heavyweight submission artists in the sport it would be unprecedented - I think even over Werdum's previous match with Nogueira.
