I dont know if you know this but when he fought Big George Foreman everyone else was ducking him. There wasn't a top guy that would go near Foreman until Holyfield.
"I dont know if you know this but when he fought Big George Foreman everyone else was ducking him. There wasn't a top guy that would go near Foreman until Holyfield." That statement is a testament to just how great George Foreman was,not only did he fight Holyfield he also went the distance and all this when the old fella was 42 years old.!!!!
Losses to Moorer and Bowe are more telling what? Bowe fought two gems, and was at the top of the game at the time of them two wins. The way people downplay Bowe's significance in the sport is a joke. Bowe was awesome back then! The size difference between him and Evander was huge, and Evander held his own to say the least! Couple that with the fact Evander was utterly dominate at Cruiser, winning a title against Qawi in his 12th pro fight, then unifying the title against Carlos De Leon who was a great fighter 4 fights later, basically accomplishing everything the division had to offer within 16 fights. How is that overrated he wiped that division completely clean in 16 fights against top quality opposition. His win against Moorer was with Moorer coming off wins against an undefeated Botha, Vaughn Bean, and Axel Schulz(who big george ducked, and received a gift decision against). some of his opposition includes: Lewis, Vaughn Bean, Mike Tyson, Ray Mercer, Bowe, Moorer, Holmes, Bert Cooper, Alex Stewart, Michael Dokes, Pinklon Thomas. You calling his opposition "good" is a joke, because in the same sentence you named 3 top 10 heavyweights of all time.
Evander was a fantastic fighter - especially considering his size relative to that of his opposition.
I will never forget the night either. I was 7 or 8 years old, and my mom use to let me stay up and watch the fights when I was a kid. George made my night I remember going to my room, and throwing that straight punch in the air jumping for joy. Great night in boxing history. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0SONoA5L1g[/ame]
My favorite heavyweight fighter, never ducked anyone. And always tried his best, while putting on a top performance....
:happy:happy:happy Tyson unfairly gets all the blame for that one. He only did it out of retaliation. Holyfield was a filthy cheater.
An incredible warrior & a fantastic fighter, top50 p4p atg imo. Holy was the greatest ever cruiserweight by a mile, he was sensational at his natural weight. To do all he did at heavy (win the title 4 times) against the odds, time & again is incredible. He's had so many brutal wars & over 20 years after beating Qawi he beat Valuev! "Holy wasnt a dirty fighter but he would not allow himself to be bullied. He'd read enough of the Bible to know his God can be a wrathful God" However, you cant ignore "Evan Fields" & the fact that many of his health problems may be related to steroid/ped use. Imo steroids didnt make him the brave & skillful warrior he was & still is. They bulked him up, slowed him down & probably helped him take a shot better at HW. Holy also had several poor performances along with all the amazing victories & wasnt the most consistent of fighters but he showed so much heart in winning big fights against the odds that I'll always be a fan.
atsch Holyfield lead in with his head and that gives Tyson the right to bite his ear off? stop trying to make it seem like Tyson was innocent when he clearly wasn't.
