Nice evasion. Try answering the question(s).

I can't see WHY there is such a need on Lewis's part to see the Klitschkos get beat, if he has no problem with how his career ended.

It's embarrassing to see him approaching people like Adam Booth with his "advice on how to beat Vitali," and get blown off.

Why can't he just do the classy thing and STAY OUT OF IT?

He totally disrespects the current champs by acting the way he does.

And he causes a lot of this back and forth arguing between the fans.

    Great points.

Some act as if Lewis's was old and slowing greatly, but his age was not a ALL old for a heavyweight, and he did boast about how he was at the peak of his powers after the Tyson beating.

Funny how meeting a better opponent can change your outlook on how *frisky* you feel.

-He thrashes Tyson.................he's at the peak of his powers..........ready to go for years more...........

-Vitali gives him all he can handle............OOPs, change that. I wisely feel my body is getting old all of the sudden, time to call it a day.

Exactly. There's so much revisionism that goes on with Lewis apologists about the Vitali fight.

    "Too old."

    At 37?

Vitali is 40 now and still dominant. A guy Lewis's size and strength should have been able to fight on for a few more years at least.

    "Out of shape."

    Really?

    If so, why?

He was also "out of shape" for Rahman I, so I guess that wasn't unusual for Lennox.

point to vitali as the poster boy for what 40 year olds should look like and when 90% of the division is 10 years younger than him and look like arreola

Fact. Vitali retired Lewis. Lewis was NOT planning to retire in 2003. The only reason Lewis retired was so that he did not have to face Vitali again. The rematch was in the works for December with Lewis hoping that Vitali would not recover in time for the fight. When it became clear that Vitali's cuts were healing just fine and he would be cleared to fight in December, Lewis changed his tune and pulled out of the fight. Vitali easily defeated Johnson and forced mandatory defense for Lewis. Lewis announced his retirement within one week before WBC meeting scheduled to strip him of the title.

It is obvious that had Vitali not recovered in time for December fight Lewis would fight Johnson or RJJ instead, or, if Vitali lost to Johnson, Lewis would defend against Johnson in '04.

    Vitali lost the fight.

Lewis was scared of a rematch and prefered a comfortable retirement. Smart move.

    Period.

How could it be a myth that Lewis promised a rematch and then retired?

    That's just how it happened.

Lewis made the right choice to retire though, because he was getting smoked in the first fight.
