If Joe Calzaghe wanted more credit, he should've spent his time from 1997-2006 looking for big fights, instead of remaining in obscurity fighting no names...

Look, this is obvious. We will NEVER know if Calzaghe could meet a Prime Hopkins. Hopkins is 43... Hopkins has held up incredibly well physically, but he is nowhere near his prime.

It's not an excuse, it's just fact. Did Tarver beat a Prime RJJ??? NO. Am I making an excuse for the lose by saying that Tarver beat an over the hill RJJ? I don't think so. It's just a fact, isn't it???

Calzaghe waited wayyyyyyyyyy too long to look for big fights, and the consequence is that there aren't too many big fights to be made. The Calzaghe fans should stop making excuses as to why he "isn't given credit".

JC is a great fighter, but how can I credit someone who was sitting around fighting a bunch of no names with padded records in between the Eubank (1997) and Lacy (2006) fights...He spent his prime wasting time defending a belt that is virtually worthless (WBO Super Middleweight Title).

If he wanted respect, he should've done what all other great fighters did....MADE BIG FIGHTS IN THEIR PRIME.

Well, how old is Hopkins? He is 43 isn't he? And that is a very advanced age is it not? And that does prevent him from keeping his workrate up when compared to his younger days does it not?

I mean yeah, maybe if you look at it, Joe C shouldn't have fought Hopkins because he would get little credit from some fans because of hi age. But at the same time, i think Joe C needs to put Hopkins in his resume a lot more than Hopkins needs Joe C on his resume. And that's why he's taking this fight.

    X years ago...

    Prime for prime....

    That wasn't the real Hopkins....

He hadn't trained as hard as he used to....

The old Hopkins would never have been stopped in round one....

The lights were glaring off the white boy....

I'll give Joe credit but no doubt i will say that Hopkins was old.

I give Joe credit for his win over Lacy even though Lacy was overhyped (though not by me)

I also give Joe a ton of credit for his win over Kessler ever though it was in his back yard and Kessler has never beaten any great opponents.

and for his win over Eubank even though he was past his best days

If Calzaghe really puts a massive beating on Hopkins I will really give him a shitload of credit

Who was the world champ at 160 or 175 during 1997-2006? Did JC fight any of them? NOPE.

Did he fight any future HOFer? Nope.

Did he fight any P4P Top 10 Fighter? Nope.

He beat 0 World Champs in that time. He may have beaten some form of other bull**** champion, but no legitimate World Champs.

    Stop lying...

Hopkins is 43 yrs OLD. Calzaghe will beat Hopkins and not because he is better than Hopkins but because Hopkins is simply an old man a former shell of himself. This is the only reason why Calzaghe has managed enough courage to fight him in USA.

    Who cares?
It will be an awesome night, I've been waiting for the old ******* to get his ass beaten up real bad. This time there ain't gonna be no excuses, because he's gonna get thoroughly beaten and embarrassed :D

Nah, Oldie has been looking real close at the Saiko Bika tapes, it will be somewhat similar to that, but w/ Joe winning a pretty clear decision.

He's actually not making as much sense as you think. Answer me this: Did Hopkins price himself out of a fight with Joe 6 years ago. Yes or no? At that point, Joe would be 30. And Hops would have been 36.

You know as well as I do that the SMW division doesn't have the most incredible fighters. Who else could he have fought apart from the ones who were put in front of him?

As for Hopkins being out of his prime, GOOD. Joe hopes he is and he has stated that openly. Thing is, Hops doesn't consider himself to be anywhere near bad shape or out of his prime, so if he has the confidence to do it now, why is anyone complaining?

Old is clearly the betting favourite, TFFP gives short odds on that

He'll have become MUCH worse since wooping Tarver, just you watch. He was fine up to 43, but all of a sudden he'll just get old

We all know he's old, that's why he's been fighting like turd. If you pick Mary and ignore the evidence right infront of your eyes, you have no place to be making excuses

Let's take the favorite argument of JC lovers and agree with it. LET'S SAY HOPKINS DODGED JC. Now be quiet about it.

There's a thing called "catch weight" and "changing divisions"...

From 1997-2006, there were PLENTY of quality fighters, not named Bernard Hopkins, weighing from 160-175.

Where was Calzaghe's effort to fight them???

If Calzaghe completely decimates Hopkins will people think Calzaghe would have beaten a prime Hopkins?
