Hopkins Fans: What excuse will they use?

Genius...he didn't 'got old'...he is old.

 

Thats what I have been saying since the fight happened....

"He looked bad vs Winky"

But who the **** doesnt look bad vs Winky? Winky's whole style is made to make his opponent look bad. And they all ignore one thing with this....HE WON THE FIGHT!!!

On top of that, he hit Winky cleaner than anyone had in the past (at least since Vazquez...which was way before Winky became the fighter he is)...he even staggered Winky late in the fight. AND NOONE does that. Most are content with banging shots against his guard (see Taylor). Hopkins straight lead right found its mark ALOT! If they think the same thing cant happen to a fighter with 1/1000 the defensive technique/skill of Winky Wright...they are crazy.

Ill say it again...WHO LOOKS GOOD VS WINKY????

Whatever the case is JOE hasn't faught anyone with a legitimate name. Bhop will be his First. Kessler was a solid name but Joe was going to beat him before the fight even started....the same with Jeff. The only fight that could have been questioned which was his best figth (along side with the Recent Kessler Win) was the Eubanks fight. Which Eubanks was far past his best days as welll....but Joe wasn't exactly in his prime either...he was still young and getting better.

Joe hasn't been pro active to get the best fights otherwise great fights that he needs would have materialized long ago. Joe was content on fighting guys who posed no challenge to his abundance of talent and skills. He for one reason or anther chose the VERY easy road and chose to stay in the comforts of his own back yard where he only had options of fight VERY limited opostion that there was NO questoin he'd win.

That is why MANY fans...not just US fans but even in his own home town question and verablize thier concerns with that kind of behavior from a champion. This is his first BIG fight! Unfortunately it's against a very old and past his prime Bhop and there is little doubt Joe is going to loose. If he does loose I'll be VERY surprised that with his talent and skill can't get past a very old man who has slowed considerbly. Hop is still very crafty and smart but youth will beat out Old age in this case.

 

Eubank wasnt far past his best.... a bit but not far. He still had enough to very nearly win a cruiserweight title off a guy that served up David Haye his only loss.

 

I don't agree that Hopkins looked bad against Winky. I thought he looked very good. What cracks me up is Winky's reaction after the decision. I know that he knew he didn't win that one. I can understand his reaction after the Vargas and Taylor decisions but not this one. That kind of let me know Winky is a whiner. Before that, i thought he was a guy who just got robbed but after the Hopkins fight, my view of him changed a bit.

 

Reid was a good fighter. Veit was just an inflated record.

When you say "people dodged Joe", what do you mean??? I know the B-Hop story, and recognize that it's fairly common knowledge that Hopkins chose not to fight JC.

But, where are all of these mystery fighters who dodged JC??? I didn't see JC chasing down the likes of Ottke, let alone RJJ. What about all the issues with a Glen Johnson fight?

Here's the point. Facts are facts. JC has no HOFer on his resume. JC has no unified champ on his resume. JC has no ATG on his resume. JC spent 1997-2006 defending his WBO Super Middleweight Title, rather than unifying, or moving up or down.

In that timespan, there were plenty of quality fighters who COULD fight anywhere from 160-175. JC doesn't have these guys on his resume...

 

No excuses, but the problem is Hopkins age no matter what, so I still think JC wouldn't get too much credit and it will be worst if the fight ends up very close on the judges scorecards (which may be the case).

Still, I don't understand why JC fans complain about people here on this forum don't give him enough credit. In almost every P4P list that I have seen JC is one of the top guys. Of course not in every list he was #1, those places belonged to Mayweather or PacMan, but still JC was one of the top guys.

And that's too much to say considering there are a lot of people here that sports a JC photo avatar.

Another thing, I ain't counting BHops out on this fight and I am not even his fan though the probabilities of JC winning a UD are high, still BHops would not lose easily.

why didn't Hopkins step up.. all he did was beat smaller men.. hardly stuff that p4p greatness is made off..

edit : as in IF calzaghe beats Hopkins he beats a smaller man

 

Um...he did beat Tarver who at the time was considered the best LHW in the world. That was a 15lb. jump at 40+ years of age...Not bad.

Also, Trinidad may have been smaller, but he was the favorite. Hopkins pulled off a pretty good upset by knocking out Trinidad.

I am not gonna defend Bernard as fighting "anyone, anywhere", but their resumes do not compare...

Bernard was wrong with a lot of stuff he did, but I don't defend it the way people defend JC.

He spent 97-06 fighting no names huh? How long have you been following boxing? 10 minutes?

Reid (back then), Mitchell and Brewer and big big wins. All 3 had been and would have been world champs at the time had they not decided to take the "easy" fight first and got robbed by Ottke/refs/judges. (Actually Brewer would of lost his belt to Echols first but hey... follow that chain and Kessler would end up with that belt.) Woodhall was no bull**** champion - he got his belt off the guy that got it off Nigel Benn. He was a world class fighter in his prime at his best weight. How about Omar Shieka coming of a win over Glen Johnson? Spose thats nothing too... much like beating a guy that had recently beaten Clinton Woods too I guess.

 

Then why didnt he go to the US and do that back then?
Because theres no way Clazaghe would be beat a prime Hopkins and he knows it which is why its only now Joe that chooses to fight Hopkins.
