I think a lot of people can become too focused on what has happened in the last month or two. With Pacquiao, he's been an asset to the sport for a long, long time now. It seems ridiculous that this is the same guy who beat Ledwaba all those years back, went on to beat Barrera, Morales and then eventually Marquez. Most fighters have one career but Pacquiao has had four distinguishable periods of success in his. His early world title success, his rise to major dominance, the period ending in the Diaz fight and now this last exemplary part of his career. We praise fighters who have a career as successful as one of those periods, and yet Pacquiao is still going after all that.

I don't think people realise how good he is or has been. When he retires, a few people will say "good". In 2 or 3 years, many will miss him. In 20 years time, serious historians will look back at a record which matches almost any in history.

When they do look back they will also say he ducked, the most skillful fighter of his era (Floyd Mayweather jr), which made no sense, considering they both fought in the same weight class. Should he retire and never fight Floyd, Pac will forever be in his shadow.

Agreed. And, fair or not, I think he'll get a pretty fair pass from the press for the last few months. Manny is nice to the press, likable, and has a track record of taking big fights. Not having Mayweather will be a footnote, not a defining chapter. Personality can greatly influene those who will write the history.

Floyd Mayweather is the Ali of this gen
    While Manny is the Frazier.

It may seem like Manny is more liked now, but trust me, when they retire, Mayweather will be remembered by more people than Manny.

When they look back, they'll see one fighter who fought the best throughout his career and one who avoided the toughest challenges after he became a star. History will not favour Mayweather kindly.

Its Not A Terrible Comparison, During both of Ali's reins, he was not liked at all, not even after the Shavers fight, the only person who favored him, was probably, Howard Cosell. Also, May talked **** similar to Ali. Of Course its more extreme nowadays.

When Joe was Champion, he was loved, during the entire " Fight of the Century" you could hear the crowd screaming words of praise for joe.
Trust me, the more dominant fighter, is always remembered more than the more exciting one. Ali to Tyson. As Mayweather, Dominates Most of his fights by a large margin.

You make some good points, but Ali was also in some really exciting, top notch fights. Frazier fought essentially the same competition.

Floyd has never given fans the excitement of Pac vs. JMM/MAB/Morales. Had Floyd fought at a similar level, the comparison would be more accurate.

    You Mean Excitement?

Because if its on opposition, I've Never seen Manny fight a Zab Judah, who would have boxed the **** out of him, or make an attempt to fight Victor Ortiz, who would muscle him out of the ring. Manny is good, fun to watch, but the sport is boxing, hit and not get hit. he's a great #2.
