Why is Mayweather not as idolized as Muhammad Ali?

I agree 100% with what you said about Floyd working hard and dedicating himself to the top of the sport, you're right. What I was trying to say is
Ali was different he was more than a boxer. He was out trying to better his people and making a stand for what he felt is right. Everytime I see Floyd on 24/7, a tweet, or whatever 99% of the time its bull****. Which sucks because you can tell he means well and he isn't a dumb guy at all. All I'm saying that Ali was a man who was trying to change the world, and Floyd is a man trying to get rich. That's why Ali is Ali and Floyd will always be Floyd

You seriously have to ask this?

One guy took on the greatest fighters of his time while they were at their greatest and he conquered them more often than not. One guy took a controversial, wildly unpopular and very public stance with everything to lose and nothing to gain, based purely on his principles. History says he was right to do so and almost ridiculously brave to do it. One guy would get out of his limo and wade into a crowd to shake hands and give out hugs, then sit on a doorstep for hours talking to neighborhood kids. One guy would and did talk another guy off a high ledge just because he happened to be passing by. One guy is pretty much the coolest and baddest dude who ever lived.

The other guy is Floyd "duck" Mayweather.

Who gives a flying ****? Are you really this stupid? There are probably a dozen undefeated fighters around right NOW, it doesn't mean **** and never has, and you have to be almost brain-dead stupid to still trot this out like it's something significant.

Ali was not always loved. He became respected and eventually loved when we took on his biggest opponent and won, The US Military and the Supreme Court when he refused to enter the military service. With this victory alone Ali made history. Regarding boxing, Ali brougt a new style of boxing and promotion. His predictions, media press talking, ryming and most of all boxing skills were never seen in the heavy weight division and pretty much all divisions until Ali's appearence. Ali changed the world of boxing forever. Mayweather is an imitation of Ali, he is not unique. Mayweather boxing skills are not unique either, check out Sugar Ray Lenoard and you will see a unique boxer who fought the very best in his prime (The four horsemen). Mayweather is unique in using elbows and other non-professional skills. Also, Ali fought the very best in his division and at their prime, Mayweather has not, and if he does it will not be at their prime. Ali is not Mr. Perfect, but he did change the world of boxing, he evolutionized boxing. Mayweather is and has been a copycat of other great boxers.

Part of being great is coming back and winning after a defeat.

The boxers you mentioned did just that.

Mayweather is undefeated simply because he cherrypicks his opponents and fights with them when they are out of their prime.

I'm not saying you need to lose to prove your the best, what I'm saying is you need to fight the best to be the best and Mayweather has not done that yet!

Dude, he had a plethora of professional fighters raising him. Dad and uncle made him what he is. Save the hard luck story for someone that deserves it.

    nice summary...dead on.

ali was lovable early in his career, then turned hateful , then what makes him greater than anything is the fact he reverted back to loving all people...
also IMO what made him ten times the man of someone like mayweather is how he dealt with people criticizing him . Howard Cosell was his biggest critic even if he was a huge fan too. Floyd doesnt like merchant and was almost waiting for a question he didnt like and jumped down the throat like a baby of an 80 year old man..... ali had been head to head debates with people of all education and stature and if he didnt like someone else point or they blew his off, he never said a word in anger or raised his voice in a shouting manner

Because Ali fought everyone he could and was in an era of toughness when the best fights usually happened and brought the needed interest. Floyd is in an era of softness where the best fighting the best is rare. Me and true fans get tired of that primadonna crap with guys putting more emphasize on the "0" record opposed to how it should be where quality of opposition counts more. Me I'm more of an appreciator of the old school though I'm not really an adult yet.

This is from a Floyd fan but if he fought in the Fab 4 days it's hard to say he would've been great which cancels out the theory that he's an ATG which he isn't. Past prime DLH and no other real stand out win and he's an ATG? Are you serious? He may have been decent but great???lol Naw.
