Despite his obvious dislike of certain fighters, I can't really recall him ever calling a fight or exchange wrong (as I see it), he blatantly doesn't like Floyd and shows it openly during his post-fight interviews, but during the fight he never cheaps him, always gives him his due, and is a far far better judge than that parrot-from-alladin sounding clown Harold Leaderman :think If I'm overlooking something please tell me
its true only cry baby butthurt fan boys hate him because he says bad stuff about their man crushes. Merchant talked mad **** about haye i didn't give a **** i found it funny.
he drones on and on a bit ... when me and my mate are watching fights i always give him this "o god look" when larry merchant starts analyzing something and takes 30 seconds just to get a few words out i think he is just past hes prime in commentating sense
Larry Merchant can do no wrong in my book. I have been watching boxing since i was about six and Larry Merchant has made the journey all the more exciting.
Merchant is great. He's easily the most entertaining commentator. At one point he suggested that Froch would have done better against Wlad than Haye did.
In Morales Pac 1 he gave some rounds to PAc that i can not believe he did, and he hates FLoyd, its ok if he doesnt show it but he does and its unprofessional for his job.
Larry Merchant aint no different than any other commentator, all of them slant thier comments for and against certain fighters. Thats just human nature. I cant stand that old dog half the time but I would miss him if he was not there.
I actually agree. Never understand why Froch gets stick, he represents everything right about boxing. He would have given it everything with or without fully functional little toes.
He's a bit unfair at times, as in the post fight interview after Floyd had shown the mercy to put fruit cake Ortiz out of his misery. But most of the time his negativity and honesty is excellent. I belive that most people who really cant stand him are *****s. The way he busted Roy Jones balls for cherrypicking were epic
Watched the fight again this morning, I didn't agree that they were Pac rounds but because of the back-and-forth nature of the fight and the sheer volume of punches thrown by each man, I could have seen why he gave them to Pac (he had it 3-3 when I think I had it 4-2 Morales)
Not a fan because of what he wrote about Sonny Liston when he won the title. He said something about using confetti made of ripped up arrest warrants to celebrate. You're a punk Larry Merchant and if I was 90yrs old I would whoop your ass!
When Liston was champ, a lot of ppl were not so happy: he was not white ( these were years when in a lot of places legal segregation was norm, like restaurants etc, damn ) and Patterson too did not looked ideal for this world in these years but this at least was Olympic Gold medalist, symbol of national pride and honor in Olympic sport. At least he had fought known in europe former olympian, Olympic medalist Johanson 3X. There? Some almost noname Liston with title? 1950 ies - 1960 ies were times with a lot of racism, even legal segregation. Now yeah, boxing world is not like this was in 50 ies - 60 ies in US.
