I just need to know how changing the weights will solve any of the actual problems in boxing.

Not more nonsensical calls for a "super heavyweight" division. Which will basically mean within a couple of years we will have as World Champions.

    WBA Helenius

    WBO Dimitrenko

    IBO Ustinov

    IBF Tyson Fury

Something tells me your miniature tiny "heavyweights" will all want to jump in weight class and topple these donkeys.

Yeah, nobody forced all those cruisers to blow up and fight the Klitschkos. I could not disagree more with the concept of a super heavyweight division. It baffles me that people think the only reason the Klitschkos can't be beat is their size. You have to stop and consider that maybe they reign supreme because they are pretty good at boxing. Sure their style takes into account their size, and they use their advantages well, but that's the name of the game.
Where were these calls for a super heavyweight division in the days of Lewis/Bowe/Tyson/Holyfield etc ?

Not to mention that part of the joy of the HW division is the disparity in sizes and shapes between guys, and the lack of draining/making weight.

I see a bigger problem from a safety perspective as being the massive de/rehydration that is becoming standard. 150 pound guys getting down to 135 etc.

;-) There will be a day when it'll be popular enough they'll probably have to introduce a 115 as well!

Spot on. With these fights below in this era I didn't see anybody ask for a SW division after the results.

I agree. They should introduce the 5% weight gain rule for just before the actual fight. I think they have it in Japan.

Cruisers can't weigh more than 210lbs on the night etc.

As said before 5% is drastically more considering what weightclass it is.

What a great Idea, I think implement more weight classes and more championship belts so we can have more champions.

Then every single fight we watch would be for a championship!!! :happy

Yes, but surely it's still better than Rios coming in 20lbs over the lightweight limit.

Agreed but the % should be relative to the weightclass IMO.

  12. It already is relative.... :think

Considering 5% of 140lbs is 7lbs, and 5% of 175lbs is the best part of 9lbs.

Unless you think the % should get lower, the higher the weight class?

I'd like to see what most flyweights weigh in on fight night. I don't think 117 on the night would be ridiculous.

The poundage for the weight classes is fine IMO (even if there are too many)

I'd rather see multipal weigh ins (ie, a weigh in the week before, 3 days before, the day before, and just before the fight) to make sure boxers aint cutting to much too quicky in the last few days
