How about those fking 20 round Joe Louis fights? 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16. 17, 18, 19, & "now touch them up"..20.
Dempsey if I remember right, fought once a year at best by that point of his career, so didn't want to worry about going the full championship distance. And Tunney was agreeable, as the less time in the ring with Dempsey, the better.
Bet your sorry you started this one but I get what you mean. I suppose today the championship rounds are 11 and 12 although I don't think of them as such. Definiyely not round 10 though.
yeah, the rematch was a farce in terms of being favoured to Tunney, I hear everything down to the ref was picked in his favour, rumours of course, but well documented
haha thanks, that's all I needed clearing up really, this lad in the lounge was saying round 10 was a championship round, defo not
Fighter's today couldn't cope with the 15 round endurance test! I mean elmer ray used to win battle royale's 1 handed and he never even earned a title shot! Classic era >> modern era.
12 round fights were for 1 hour home TV fights. 12 x 3 min = 36 min plus 11 min for commercials in between rounds. TOTAL 47 min. Then add 6 & 7 min for pre-fight and post fight announcer stuff and you gotta a ONE HOUR program wrapped up,
15 round fight, 13, 14 and 15 are the championship rounds. 12 round fight, 10, 11 and 12 are the championship rounds. Some judges base it on the last three rounds, the home stretch of the fight which may determine the winner.
Yeah, somehow I think Dempsey had a say in that, since he was coming off a 3 year layoff. Tunney should have insisted on 15...he would have stopped Jack in both encounters, IMO.
