Why did Tyson stop using combinations in his later fight?

Training for combinations and upper body movement is hard work, which is why he stopped doing it. The cracks were showing while he was with rRooney taking the mid rounds of against Thomas and even with Rooney you notice he was slowly becoming a headhunter.

It's clear to see he was declining very early in his career, when he really shouldn't have been. Just watch tapes and the combination punching is clearly diminishing fight by fight. It's alot easier to throw one big Hayemaker than a 6 punch combo, just as its easier to get a blowjob instead of training.

I have to disagree. In the rematch Tyson was actually getting the better of Holyfield. But things went to **** after Holyfield dipped down to go for that classic Head Haymaker.

I'll have to dig this one back up; I haven't watched it since it happened live; so, my memory may be failing me here:

In the rematch, Tyson started off using lots of jabs and head movement and was having some success in slipping Holyfield's punches. However, Holyfield was having the same success in smartly negating Mike's power when he would attempt to get under Evander to generate power. Holyfield would sometimes wing punches over Tyson and keep his arm curled over the top of Tyson, preventing him from coming up and using his legs to generate power.

By the end of the first round, Tyson was getting outboxed and looked like he was on the verge of being stopped.

I don't remember any headbutts in the first round, though I could be wrong.

Born to beat Mike Tyson? I don't think so.

Had the fought on November 8th, 1991, Holyfield, being way more susceptible to being drawn into a fight than he was some six years later, would have been made to stand and trade, and he would have come off worse than Tyson.

Tyson was highly motivated in preparation for the bout in November 1991, he had been active that year (twice against Ruddock) and was sharp, weighing 217lbs & 216lbs, respectively, for those two bouts.

He'd have beaten Holyfield. I don't think people realise what Prison did to Tyson. He went away for a crime he believes he did not commit. I bet the least of his worries in there was fighting again.

this is very much the truth...

when tyson was younger, it was all about the fun, and proving himself to gus, after cus damato died, tyson felt lost and didnt know what to do. he lost his motivation...cus always told tyson that women will bring you down so stay away and keep your mind on boxing.

don king was tysons downfall....the ppl and team that king surrounded tyson were there for only the money, not really caring about mike. so he really lost the true interest in boxing. he became too confident that he no longer needed to train and work hard and the ppl surrounding him said "dont worry bout lets just party" because they were leaches living off his fame and cash.....

I had Tyson clearly winning round 3 of the rematch with Holyfield, until the ear bite occurred at the end...it's a shame, as the rest of the fight could have been interesting.

  15. He didnt have to fight as hard anymore. All of the bums he beat after prison were so scared so he didnt have to be a great fighter to beat them. It was a bad habit he got into though and that is why he lost against Holyfield and Lewis etc
