Agreed, best of seen Alexander for ahwile and was convinced Maidana would do the number on him but he schooled Maidana!! Perhaps I've been too hard on Devon, I await his next move, definitely looked much better at 147, Maidana needs to stay at 140 though...
Only unexpected to those that don't really know boxing well. Some fighters have a lot of haters, Alexander is one of them. Alexander had problems making 140. Also, If you look at guys that gave him problems, they all had decent feet, Maidana doesn't, he is a plodder. Which gave Alexander the chances to counter effectively, and also sit down on his punches, something he wasn't able to do against Matthysse, because Matthysse actually had decent footwork.
:deal I was surprised by how well he did. I've never seen maidana hurt so many times except for khans two body shots. Thought alex cloud have had him out of there @ one point. Maybe maidana should stay down @ 140
A new more comfortable weight class, not draining himself to make the weight = more power, and better ability to take a punch. He took all of Maidana's punches fine last night. That paired with Maidana's extremely crude style, i.e little skill, and horrible footwork, plodding, I knew that Alexander would look ok. He still needs to improve on his defense, his defensive instincts absolutely suck, there was one instance where he actually moved his face into a bomb, like they were magnetically attracted or something. He still is very uncomfortable getting in range to make a lot of his punches effective. The jab still shorts. He doesn't seem to have very long arms at all. He is definitely a top 10 guy at 147, but not near the top. I would have to see him do well against a name top 10 guy at 147 to better gauge him. He seems to have a hell of a chin, I think that will help determine how far he goes at 147, because his defense absolutely sucks.
Great...chin held up, looked very strong, still super fast, basically like most expected him to look after the Urango fight. You don't see alot of guys with his combination of skill, speed, power, chin, and most importantly experience. The dude is still only 25, the future is bright for him.
I agree with Boxed ears, he sat down on his punches last night and that was the difference, he hurt Maidana several times, and if he fights that way he'll be a force to be rekened with.
Better. Maidana didn't look altogether there, but Alexander looked much better. I like the way his body filled out and handled 147 as well.
