Calzaghe didn't do **** in looking for big fights. He ran from Glen Johnson, never went after Tarver, Jones, and the like until they all either got old or were exposed for being "past their peak". How can you not use the age of a 43 year old as a reason for someone losing? hahaha. Get real man. Calzaghe spent his life fighting bums and defending a bull**** belt. You talk about him like he was the "fight anyone anywhere anytime". That's bull****. You can hate on Hopkins, but the guy made BIG FIGHTS against Hall of Famers. Calzaghe in the meantime fights nobodies. Give me a break.
Why do so many of you Calzaghe fans come off like know-it-all ****s? I'm pretty sure it's not a Welsh thing, as I have some very good friends who live in Swansea, and they're very good people. Why would he have taken him in 02? Joe was just another SprMW in 02. He was iin the mix with several others as the top man@ 168. It wasn't till he beat Lacy and Kessler that he got some of the overdue exposure. So really, there wasn't any need to face Calzaghe. The REAL reason Hopkins agreed to this fight is because Joe FINALLY stepped up to the level he probably should have a years ago. Too many wasted defenses on scrubs kept Joe on the back burner.
MasterCalzaghe is a complete fool who started watching boxing two years ago. He tries to be funny occasionally but fails miserably hence why he feels the need to make his arrogant statements.
I really hate these New Mayweather/Calzaghe fans....:-( Some of the most arrogant and not too intelligent posters, no matter how much time they spend suckin each other's sack.
Nonsense. Watch Joe's earlier fights you can see the man had pure, raw talent - it's basic risk versus reward Joe had nothing of reward and everything to risk for a boxer like Bernard. Joe didn't need to fight in the states to have proved himself years back, why should he? 6 years ago he made moves on a man who ruled a division and was considered legend in the making and that never transpired so why ridicule the man as avoiding others? Heck, if Lacy hadn't believed the crap everyone around him was telling him he would never have come over and faced Joe and we wouldn't be where we are today! Who knows? The lacy hype machine could have continued and Joe would have finished his career unknown by so many simply because he didn't take bum cheques for big fights in a country where the odds would have been vastly stacked against him. Everyone recognizes Joe's talent regardless of whether they admit it much like how people are constantly trying to debunk Floyd for not fighting Cotto. When boxers themselves, top trainers and top analysts of the sport recorgnize a boxer as 'something special' you can't constantly harp on about who they've not fought. Joe's scalp is most sought after now. Bernard wants it, as does Taylor. Other boxers like Kelly and Bute choose not to mention his name - speaks volumes to me.
Change the record mate. You are not only dellusional but seemingly have an unhealthy attachment to Joe. Take up fishing.:good
No one contends he didn't have talent. But feasting on the fighters he did sure didn't make anyone feel the need to fight him. Beating guy s Mkrtchian, Salem, Even Ashira, or Tucker Puwell don't exactly scream "World Beater" or "Hey, lets go see this guy fight again!!" You are defined by the guys you beat. WHy are you dissing Lacy for going to Wales to make the fight? Who cares about the 'What ifs', Lacy WENT over and fought. Do you think he went there simply because he "believed the crap", or maybe to prove himself against the other top SprMW? Actually you can. Looking special against lower leven boxers isn't the same as beating guys @ the top.
Anddddddddddddddddddddddddddd, when did Calzaghe make an attempt to make a big fight between 1997 and 2006 with a fighter OTHER THAN BERNARD HOPKINS??? Oh yeah, he didn't...
Calzaghe hasn't beaten anyone. Lacy and Kessler, hype hype hype. Bernard will nullify Calzaghe's output. Slick movement, perfect calculation of distance... Calzaghe has zero balance, leaps forward his head down (he will pay dearly for this I can garantee you) and doesn't punch straight... Don't you Calzaghe lovers realize that Bernard is the perfect fighter to beat Calzaghe easily? Styles make fights, and believe me, Bernard has got the style to shut out Calzaghe. All that Calzaghe has for him is punch output and workrate... But movement and ring generalship can nullify that, and Bernard is the best at that game. Wait and see, Calzaghe will look like Sam Soliman.
Calzaghe beat Eubank 10 years ago...He was a very good fighter... You're right though. These Calzaghe fans think punch output wins fights. Look at the Paul Williams fight last night. All BHOP has to do is use that patented straight right hand, and some veteran tactics inside...
Idiots.... I haven't seen one punch thrown by Calzaghe in his whole career. I have seen him throw slaps though. He doesn't throw 100 punches a round....He throws 100 slaps a round.
