He is far from a G. He is 32 and is just now taking a big fight. I dont give much merit to it cause it had to happen eventually.
Ward would not allow Bute in his tournament...............Ward still refuses to fight Bute.................Bute will travel to UK to fight Froch.............Ward will never travel anywhere to fight anybody................Ward will never fight Bute................
Not really man, he could have kept milking his position and people ala Sturm, Ottke, ect. But I hear you, its kinda something that should happen anyways right.... the number 3 guy fighting the number 2 guy to see who gets a shot at number 1 again. In that sense, I totally understand. But still, I think he deserves props to going into Frochs backyard (where some believe he has gotten hometown decisions in the past) and taken on the S.6 runner up. Just imo though.
When was the last time that the champion travelled to fight the challenger in his backyard even though:- 1. The champion is the much bigger draw 2. The champion is the bigger name 3. More money could be made in the champion's home-town for both the challenger and champion 4. The challenger is coming off a loss and the champion is unbeaten 5. The champion is favourite to win the fight? 6. The champion would have had better exposure on US TV (Showtime) had he chosen an easier fight than the challenger, whilst fighting at home? I can't recall the last time this has happened before... ...just shows how much Bute is avoided and how much he had to give away to make this fight.
Bute is several years & fights behind starting thinking of him as a G. Would he really "clean out" SMW (including at least wins against Froch, Ward & Kessler) then step up to other big challenges at LHW, one could start wondering about his alleged G status. Right now, this issue is pointless.
