He most definitely didn't beat JLR IMO. Admittedly the best and most rounded performance of Ramirez's career, and IIRC the first time Arguello dipped his toes into lightweight. A non-title 10 rounder. Eclipsed by more impressive performances over te championship limit at 135.

But I had it 6-4 Ramirez without the knockdown. Again though, Arguello had his moments, never looked outclassed and found his way into the fight, again a ten rounder. No disgrace against a guy who'd go on to be one of the better lightweights in the next few years.

:good Okay then, detailed feedback much appreciated!

I did view the tape of Duran-Ed Viruet I, looking for an argument beforehand that Ed might have deserved the decision. My subjective impression however is that the judges did score it correctly. Roberto did look lethargic, but I felt his aggression trumped Ed doing better than many expected.

We're pretty much on the same page as far as the scoring of Fernandez-Arguello I. I definitely need to closely inspect the entirety of Duran-Fernandez though. Playing Devil's Advocate, I'll tell you right up front that when I do, I'll be trying to score those first ten rounds with a bias towards Vilomar. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean I'll find him ahead after ten. I tried to score Escalera-Everett through whatever Eddie Cool's perspective for Boxing News was, and couldn't get closer than a one point win for Everett. I will attempt to evaluate it from more of Howard's point of view however.

No probs, and you're probably right with Duran-Vruet.

I will be interested in your scorecard for Duran-Fernandez all the same if you find the time to post it. I think you'll struggle to give Vilomar more than two rounds if you're being straight up.

The commentary for the fight is quite interesting, as they spend about 80% of the time praising Fernandez, and then turn out cards like 8-1-1 for Duran. I think they were really impressed with Fernandez's fighting ability, which is fair enough, but he got worked over big time as far as I'm concerned.

I challenge anyone to watch this fight and then tell me Duran loses to Floyd Mayweather or Pernell Whitaker for that matter.

You know you have issues understanding boxing when fights that are easy to analyse like Jose Luis Ramires against Arguello give you problems everytime you try to use your brain.
