First off Floyd is not a southpaw...and fights wayyyyyyyy more defensively..I love Floyd but Paul Williams is still matchup nightmare for him...still I think Floyd would win a very close fight.

Paul needs to use his jab more..and not head hunt so much...he needs a new tariner..NOW..somoen make this kid sit on his punches so he can guys like Carlos out of there.

    Paul shouldve beat him.

Hard to say for sure but his lack of amateur experience really showed Saturday night. My guess is he can improve because his flaws are technical not physical. He's got a helluva a chin, good size and handspeed.

But he needs to learn defense. Little things like parrying and staying out of range by either getting close or moving laterally were nonexistent Saturday night. He just seemed to be in Quintana's wheelhouse all night. That's because he's an offensive minded fighter to the extreme.

Bad night at the office caused by trying to squeeze into a division too low for him. Not enough experience to deal with certain styles and some flaws in his own style.

He needs to stop coming forward and smothering his own punches. Floyd would shut his eyes and Cotto would shatter his ribs and jaw if he fought them like that.

:think I'd say he had a bad night. But to be completely honest I'm not sure. He looked like a winner in beating a better fighter in Margarito but lost to Carlos this past Sat. I thought he would win rather easy and look what happened. To me....Paul looked sluggish and not himself....but on the same token Carlos looked great. He showed a lot of skill and grit in there. Not sure what happened to him in the Cotto fight but he didn't look good that night and I all but wrote him off. He proved to be a very solid fighter with excellent skill. I'd like to see him fight Cintron or Marg. Paul needs to prove himself once again to earn a rematch.

I don't think it can be as plain & simple as saying Paul had a bad day at the office or he was exposed at the top level. I think we'll be able to make a better evaluation on Williams later this year. How soon he boxex next, & against whom is very important.

If he chooses to box a lesser-calibre boxer than the recent company he been in with in Margarito, Quintana, etc, then I guess we will be saying it was fools gold!

However, if he faces a top 10 Welter in his next bout & wins, then we may put the loss down to Quintana as a learning curve.

In my view, Williams is still in the mix at Welter, but I have said since all the talk started, that there has never been any merit for comparing Paul to Thomas Hearns & I know Williams would not beat Mayweather or Cotto. It was very premature talk in my view.

Williams is only, what, 25/26, so if he doesn't dwell on the loss & learns from it, he can produce the goods again.

People may be quick to say Williams underestimated Quintana, which he may have done to a certain extent, but you got to give credit to Carlos for coming back & upsetting the odds. Quintana is right bakc in the mix at 147lbs now.

The next few months could be a big factor in the future of Williams' career. He needs to get back within 2/3 months, not be out of the ring for long periods like the time between Margarito & Quintana. Paul needs to be more active.

Miguel Cotto has sustained a busy schedule so why can't a guy like Williams? Paul was viewed as a guy who was avoided, but with him now losing to a guy he wasn't supposed to have, maybe others will now call Williams out?

A little bit of both. He's still gonna be a problem for a lot of fighters. This to me seemed like a great learning experience. He also seems humble enough to admit his mistakes. As long as that translates into some serious woodshedding in the gym, he'll be alright. I'd even go so far as to pick him in the rematch if his mind is right. Paul seems like a cool cat...

Williams is a good fighter but Carlos was smarter. Carlos fought low slapped away the jab and countered effectively. Williams will bounce back but interested to see Quintana's next fight.

The fact that he was being shoved around by a significantly smaller opponent should tell you everything you need to know.

    Paul Williams.
    King of the clubs.
That where most of his fights have been and many with losing records or with as many loses as wins.
Margo must be licking his chops.
And if he gets a 2nd chance , he knocks Paul Williams out.

Yep, in total agreement with you there. The guy is good, but not elite yet. If he has the right attitude to work hard to his flaws, he can still have a very succesful career.
