I know that a fight between srl and TH has been covered many times. but what about the other two greats at welter in the late 70's, very early 80's I fancy both duran and benitez to gain close verdicts over curry
Curry - Benitez would be fascinating, with Curry's speed and eagerness to close distance giving him a very good chance. His sharp punching could well get him home.
Donald Curry had a short but great prime. He was a great fighter for a short time n my opinion. I think "Montreal" Duran would be too physical for him though and pound out a decision or get a late stoppage. Durability didn't seem to be a strength of Curry. However, a tactical fight with Benitez is a different matter. I thinK Curry could go with anybody in that tye of fight. I give Curry a close decision against Benitez.
Curry can beat benitez probably by a clsoe decision. Duran would be a nightmare for Curry. He'd get stopped last in the fight.
I think Duran-Curry would play out in a similar fashion to Curry-Honeyghan, with Duran being far too rough and physical for Curry. I think Don would last longer, but his corner would stop it around the 10th.
Agreed. Even though Curry wasnt at his best in that fight, Duran on his game was faaaaar ahead of Lloyd Honeyghan. The Duran that beat Leonard and Palimino stops Curry late. Curry-Benitez would have been a pick em.
Curry-Benitez is a toss-up, but against Duran, only the Milton McCrory-kayoing Curry has a shot, otherwise, Duran wins by 11th round stoppage brutally.
Bruce Curry's soundly beating of Benitez during Benitez' prime deserves a mention . Then a past his prime Benitez win over Duran and close fight with prime Hearns also deserve a mention . If Curry moved up in weight sooner than he did , he might have done better overall . Duran and Benitez r simply massively more overhyped than Curry and I rank Duran in my top 10 (just like almost every1 else) and Curry outside of my top 95 , I just really don't like d automatic pick of a somewhat aged , undersized fighter over 1 of d more dominant champions at that dominant champino's prime weight .
Duran would have a hard time fighting Curry's style. The only reason Duran landed on Leonard in the first fight was because Ray fought his fight. When Ray boxed Duran could never land a clean punch. I think Curry fighting his style outboxes Duran but he would have to be significantly faster and dominate from the get go, Curry standing flatfooted might be a problem if Duran could land early and land his right hand. Benitez would be a hard fight to pick against Curry. Maybe a draw..
I think Don Curry would beat any version of Wilfred Benitez, who was lucky to get past Don's brother Bruce. Curry would have nothing to fear from Benitez. The Duran of 1978 - '80 would probably beat Curry. Curry was susceptible to that sort of pace and style, I reckon. But after that ? I don't know. I think Curry was lot better than Davey Moore. It's hard to gauge post-1980 Duran, he was so inconsistent. Whether that was to do with opponents different styles is a possibility.
I think so also. Curry was a lot better than Davey Moore. A lot. Moore had 11 fights when he fought Duran.
I see you're back to spouting the same old delusional rubbish so best get back to the medico's as you've obviously got a built in resistence to the last batch of meds you've been prescribed:yep
well you never explained why Duran could not land on Leonard in the second or third fights. And fight 3 is significant since Ray was being hit more in 1989 than ever against Hearns and even Lalonde hit him in nov of 1988.. Duran could not land on Ray. It was Ray's tactics which were the variables not anything Duran did.
