In this morning paper, there's an article stating that Dawson spent 2 days in Mexico last week in front of WBC's president, Mr José Sulaiman's house hoping to be able to ask him to take away Diaconu's mandatory status. He finally had that chance, but was turn down because WBC had proof of Diaconu's injury last september, and that's why the fight, if both win their next bouts, will HAVE to take place.

The main problem is that Dawson did sign a document attesting that the winner of Dawson vs Johnson will HAVE to face the winner of the interim championship fight that is taking place in Bucarest, Romania against Chris Henry on March 29th.

So, for all of you Dawson fans that keep thinking your guy is the top at LHW, please explain why he took that trip to Mexico if it's not to avoid Diaconu?

Actually I don't know why anyone who is a fan of the Shark would want him to face Dawson. Dawson is a stylistic nightmare for The Shark and he will get a boxing lesson of a lifetime if the two ever meet.:deal

Dawson isn't ducking anyone. Jesus, do any of you guys post anything outside the boundaries of "Ducking" or "Exposed?" Dawson fighting The Road Warrior is a big test for him. Let's see how he does. I'm sure he will be involved in bigger events as his career progresses. You can't fight everyone, everyday. Sit back and enjoy, rather than trying to nit-pick everything about certain fighters or the sport in general

There's nothing Dawson can do. If Diaconu beats Henry/Branco, Dawson (as long as he beats Johnson) will HAVE to face Diaconu or be stripped. The WBC won't do another U-turn to help Dawson again. They will strip him this time, if he won't face Diaconu.

Oh, yeah; Diaconu wants this fight BADLY; he thinks he has Dawson's number. We'll see.

If Dawson ducks Diaconu, he will lose a lot of fans. Diaconu is limited, but he has the style to be a bigger threat to Dawson than Johnson or Adamek. Dawson knows this...

Dawson should concentrate on fighting has-been Johnson. Then, he'd better face his bona-fide live, hungry, prime mandatory, (whether Diaconu or Henry or Branco) like a Champ should.

Because there are bigger money fights Dawson would be able to make if he beats Johnson, and they're with a bunch of guys who are on the verge of retirement (Jones Jr., Calzaghe, Hopkins, Tarver, etc.). He's already scheduled a fight for Diaconu before, and Diaconu pulled out. Dawson has become more famous since then. It's all about money, but he's not ducking. If he waits another year to fight the big names, they might be retired by then, since they're mostly around 40.

I have nothing against Dawson and I'm not hating or anything. I actually think he would beat Diaconu pretty easily.

But how is going to the WBC's president house in Mexico begging to have Diaconu remove as the mandatory challenger not ducking?

For christ sake he got plane tickets... went to MEXICO... camped outside FOR TWO DAYS so Sulaiman would see him and then BEGGED him to remove Diaconu's mandatory status.

    :rofl

Dawson can fight anyone he likes. Just not with the WBC belt around his waist.

I realize you're a Shark fan but you must understand that a limited fighter like Diaconu doesn't have what it takes to be a complete fighter like Dawson, he's beat in every department except maybe power. Dawson won't stand in front of Diaconu and trade what he will do is use his superior jab, footwork and speed to move in and out hit the shark and make him miss all night long and this will fustrate the shark. I honestly don't even see the shark winning more than two rounds if this fight comes off.

Don't get me wrong, i am not dissing Dawson. I have huge respect for every pro boxers and I enjoy Dawson's skills a lot. He could probably outbox Diaconu, but, and that's were i am questionning his game, why did he pull that kind of stunt if not to avoid Diaconu ?

He was set up to fight him in late 07 but it was the shark who pulled out. Now he wants to move on to bigger and better things. The shark had his chance he and his fans can't fault Dawson.

True, he would just lose a lot of leverage if he doesn't have the belt (because they couldn't market it to the networks as a unification match, or in the case of Jones, as a match to get Jones a belt back). I don't disagree, I think Dawson should fight Diaconu next, but I can see why he would do this for reasons other than ducking Diaconu. IMHO, Johnson is a tougher assignment than Diaconu anyway. He punches harder (Diaconu couldn't even KO a guy who was knocked out by Prince Badi Amaju), throws just as many punches, has better reach and has a hell of a lot more experience. Glen Johnson would knock the snot out of Diaconu, unless father time has finally caught up with him.

As long as Dawson has the WBC belt around his waist he has responsibilities as a champion and he has to work with the rules dictated by the WBC. This comes with being a champion.

Like I said before. If Dawson wants to move on and make big fights against who ever he wants. He can drop his belt and do it. If he wants to stay the WBC champion. He has to fight the mandatory challenger, Adrian Diaconu, or get stripped.

    Hey, mate!

Not sure why you posted this, in reply to my post or as an answer to this thread.

Thought people who talked Dawson v. Diaconu knew I was a fan of Dawson AND Diaconu, for different reasons. Also thought they knew I favoured Dawson in this match-up. Wrote me a very long analysis explaining why a while back in the analysis thread...

Anyway...why did you post the above? Is it supposed to justify Dawson's actions? Is it supposed to justify allowing him to decide whether he should fight Diaconu or not?
