    Cooney hit harder than Haye IMO. He wasn't all that, but was a big lump. His stoppage of a past-his-best Norton was one of the most horrific I've ever seen. Poor Kenny.

    Cooney, overall, wasn't all that. That's more Haye's level IMO.

    How does everyone see Haye getting on with Cooney?

    That despite everything else he had achieved, is what most people remember him for, but Tyson that night would have done what he did to Spinks to many previous and future champions.

    Its a bit like Liston, most peoples image when his names brought up, is him lying at Ali's feet.

    Yeah, the Cooney vs Norton stoppage was sick, I'm surprised Cooney carried on hitting him, I'd have been ashamed of myself personally.

    Haye vs Cooney would be a bad night for David IMO, he just doesn't have the bottle for a shootout against a genuine HW, he'd either surrender a clear decision or be put out of his misery at some point.

    I dont to turn this into a thread that bashes Haye...him and Cooney are very much the same level, both have obvious strengths and weakness, both could easily beat alot of good/decent fighters but lose to elite fighters of the day and thats that.


    Haye real problem is loss of the eye of the tiger, not improving technically and letting it go to his head.

    For all his talk, he basically did the same thing Sultan did and that was to run, despite the fact that Sultan dosent hit hard, Dave does...I think this is what primarily has turned people off Haye, the fact he spoke so much and did so little.

    Also his skill went down hill rapidly aswell, which was unusual considering he only just tasted success in late 2007.

    :lol: Normally I dont respond, but look what I said at the bottom...its just speculation....just showcasing how I think it might have gone down.


    Some fighters, like the first Cotto-Marg fight would show Miguel winning alot of the early rounds, so what I did was just score how i thought the round would go if they did fight judging what we saw in there heavyweights fights.

    As i found it strange the tactic he adopts against taller guys...Valuev, Harrison and Wlad then compare it to Bonin, Barrett and Ruiz.

    Totally different methods, totally different punch out put.

    Difficult one, Haye is on the level of Cooney but what Tactic is he going to adopt against a 6'6 230 pound guy...if its sporadic pots shots then he is surely doomed.

    Gerry fights one way and one way only, big left hook...basic skill, good heart.

    He is likely the best in h2h terms there's been at 175 imo, in terms of effectiveness I mean. Ezzard Charles is a better fighter in a technical sense and he may even be flat out better in pure terms too, but I beg to differ and always lean towards Spinks personally in that respect.

    All Haye would have to do is punch a hole through the wall into Spinks's room before the fight.

    Spinks would fold like a pack of cards then.

    I was never convinced by the great white hope....he was certainly heavy handed but he always seemed fragile to me, just a thought at the time. His record when broken down isn't that great....he did destroy a past his sell by date Norton but got his comeuppance against the come back king himself with one of the most brutal and clinical KOs ever, the way that Foreman 2 put him away is athing of beauty. Don't know how Haye would do, but probably better than most on here would say.
