The loss of muscle excuse is thrown around far too much, Roy weighed 193 for the fight with Ruiz, he weighed about 188 on fight night as a LHW.

Maybe it is maybe it isn't but his style was not meant for longetivity anyways. Relied too much on athleticism.

On the unofficial scale he weighed 200. HBO likes to lie about the weigh and stuff. His frame was bigger than a 193lb person.

WBC lawyer: Roy Jones Jr. has to fight Rocchigiani
    HDN | 10/8/1999 12:00:00 AM |
Neuss, Germany - The AP A lawyer for the WBC said Roy Jones Jr. would be stripped of his light heavyweight title if he refuses to ink a new contract to fight German challenger Graciano Rocchigiani. "If he doesn't sign, we'll take his title away," WBC lawyer Gabriel Penagaricano told the German sports agency, SID. Promoter Murad Muhammad had called off the Nov. 6 bout to be held in Biloxi, Mississippi, along with U.S. pay-TV HBO, because Rocchigiani didn't attend a press conference in New York

A lawyer for the WBC said Roy Jones Jr. would be stripped of his light heavyweight title if he refuses to ink a new contract to fight German challenger Graciano Rocchigiani.
"If he doesn't sign, we'll take his title away," WBC lawyer Gabriel Penagaricano told the German sports agency, SID.
Promoter Murad Muhammad had called off the Nov. 6 bout to be held in Biloxi, Mississippi, along with U.S. pay-TV HBO, because Rocchigiani didn't attend a press conference in New York last Thursday.
Muhammad said he couldn't promote a bout with the eccentric Rocchigiani, who detests the pre-fight hoopla, if he didn't cooperate. There's also little interest in the U.S. public in seeing Jones, also the WBA and IBF champion, fight the little-known German.
"Muhammad said Rocky (Rocchigiani) didn't want to fight. We then telephoned with his German lawyer, who sent us two certified pieces of writing that he was training and wanted to fight. We don't think he has done anything wrong," Penagaricano said.

But when Jones decided he didn't want to move up to fight heavyweights, the WBC gave him back his crown and dubbed Rocchigiani, "interim champion," where he is still listed in the box organization's rankings.

    Thanks for playing !

We are boxing fans, and as fans we like to see the best fights.

Calzaghe vs RJJ was beneficial for Calzaghe and Roy (financially) but not for the fans.

Calzaghe vs Dawson, would have been beneficial for the victor and the fans.

I already stated, Calzaghe had accomplished alot in boxing, more than 99% of boxers dream to accomplish and had the right to retire undefeated and his bank balance/health intact. However if he wanted to be remembered as a true elite ATG he should have stayed around a little longer.

But then, maybe this thread will be about calzaghe and not roy.

Your article also proves you wrong, you stupid *******.

How many press conferences did Jones miss during his career? Jones' no-shows became a running joke before the Griffin rematch. Rocchigianni was already in training camp in Germany and the fight was agreed, period.

Jones = paper title holder who never came close to becoming undisputed champion.

Always an excuse. Although I do believe Jones weight fluctuation had a lot to do with his decline, the fact is he also was rarely ever tested in his career, and Tarver was a determined opponent who also gave him some stylistic problems.

Have you ever heard of guys named James Toney and you clearly know B.Hopkins? You are aware that Jones defeated these two men in his prime right?

Calzaghe and B.Hopkins 2nd fight, Jones was clearly over the hill because he is a reflex fighter with great talent. In the 1st Tarver fight, he lost 23 lbs of muscle shortly he won the title from Ruiz at HW to go back down to LHW.

I don't think it was so much of the competion, Jones is a reflex fight and they were shot. Against Tarver however, he simply had Jones' number even before they were pros.

BOXING; Roy Jones Becomes Undisputed Champion

    By TIMOTHY W. SMITH
    Published: June 06, 1999
Roy Jones Jr. showed again tonight why he is the most dazzling boxer in the sport today. With a punishing display of ring genius against Reggie Johnson, a two-time world champion, Jones took a 12-round unanimous decision and became the first undisputed light-heavyweight champion of the world in 14 years.
