Ortiz was actually winning the 4th round vs Pretty Boy Floyd

I don't think that was the case. He was having his best moments of the fight. Hardly a time where one would boil over mentally, is it.

He did what he did because he was just plain stupid. Simple as that. He caught Floyd with some decent shots, was backing him up a little more, and he thought he'd continue his bullying by sneaking in a headbutt during his most successful burst of attack. The unfortunate thing for him, though, was that he forgot how to be subtle with it . Maybe it was his rush of excitement that suddenly escaped him, because prior to that incident, he was using his head discreetly like he was supposed to. That's all it was, I think. Just a really bad attempt to rough someone up.

It's a bit silly to suggest he lost his cool that early in a pretty uneventful fight.

This **** is not even up for debate. Floyd was easily winning the 4th round and the fight for that matter. In fact Floyd made Ortiz miss just about everything in those two flurries and the last one Floyd even put his gloves on Ortiz's shoulders and laughed at his ass. Let it go people. Ortiz took it to the streets with that headbutt and Floyd showed him that he wasn't ready and took his dumb ass out.

 

Why do people keep calling it a "sucker punch", it was not, how many people on this forum would let a guy flying head butt them, then kiss them on the cheek and not retalite the moment they had the green light? Floyd was waiting to punch Ortiz like he was standing in a long line having to pee for doing that ****, He himself didnt even think he knocked him out it was more of a eye for eye thing and concidering that Ortiz ADMITTED THAT HE WAS TRYING TO BREAK HIS OPPOENTS NOSE WITH A HEADBUTT, He experienced Karma for his actions

Yeah, you're missing the point. I'm not saying he was being very clever with those infringements. By "discreetly", I just meant he wasn't being as blatant/stupid with them as he was with that final headbutt.

Easy to lose your cool if you keep getting tagged and cant get your punches off.Thats where mental strenght,patience and plan b come in to plan.Sadly 3 things I dont think Ortiz had that night!

It certainly is. But in that fight, where Floyd was only warming up and his ass-whooping was still to come, I don't think Ortiz mentally copped out. Floyd was only tagging him with pot-shots and wasn't making him miss as badly has he does most opponents. Ortiz had been through far worse stuff (Berto and Maidana) before caving in. And considering it was a pretty decent round by his standards, I just can't envisage him to then want out of the fight.

Like I said, it was just a horrible, horrible fail at roughing him up - something which his trainer told him to do, but Ortiz being Ortiz, took it completely to another level.

 

The 4th was definitely competite.

 

Mayweather landed 27 punches in the 4th round, compared to 9 for Oritz. In terms of power punches, Mayweather held a 24 to 9 advantage. We'll call it, 22 to 9, in terms of power punches, if we discount the last two punches that ended the fight. Mayweather also threw 40 more punches(67 for him compared to 27 for Ortiz), and he landed at a higher percentage(40/33, he landed 52% of his power punches). So in round 4, Mayweather was more active, Mayweather landed way more punches, Mayweather landed the harder punches, and Mayweather landed at a higher percentage. Clean, effective punching: advantage Mayweather. Effective aggression: advantage Mayweather. Defense: advantage Mayweather. Ring Generalship: advantage Mayweather.

Even if we ignore the fact that Ortiz had a point deducted, and got knocked out in the 4th, Mayweather was still winning that round. Outside of that one flurry where Ortiz really only landed a couple of punches, he was dominated in the 4th round. I'm really not sure on what criteria Ortiz was winning that round. Maybe I'm missing something.
