A guy wrote in following Wlad's destruction of Mormeck and suggested a new weight class of Super HW for 15 stone+.

Such comments from fans is not unusual, but to get letter of the week for the single point suggest that this view is shared by the editorial opinion.

I got slated on here for suggesting the 210lb Super CW & 190lb Junior CW divisions, but under my idea HW would still be the blue riband division

    What are your views?

I don't think it means they share the view, just that they think it's worth discussing.

I don't know how I feel really. Maybe lower Cruiser to 190, have a 190-225 division and Heavy 225+. I'm not sure it needs to be changed though.

Definitely should not be called Super Heavyweight. The top weight class should always be called Heavyweight.

No more divisions please. Seriosuly, other than the Klitschkos none of the really big heavies are any good, Dimitrenko got conclusively beaten by little Eddie Chambers for example. Is it worth creating a new division when the problem probably goes away in 3 or 4 years? And not particularily big guys have beaten Wladimir before they just fought with some skill and some bottle.

Do we really need another weight class just because the Klits are too good?

    WBU tried this.
    Adios.

yes, but say the WBC tried. If the WBU had changed the CW to 200lb that probably would have flopped as well. However the WBC made the change and everyone followed

  7. No, no and never, in that order.

Fighters should just come in to the fight in shape with a game plan - then they'd have a chance at beating the Klitschkos.

With the division as it is, Wlad could be champion for the next ten years, without breaking a sweat.

We need to recognise the differences in weight and strength between Crusierweights and the Modern Heavyweights. Right now the weight at Crusierweight will weigh is around 200 pounds max at the weigh in; this means that they will need to add 25 pounds to compete even with the smaller Heavyweights if they move up and 50 pounds to even stand a chance against the K brothers.

Considering that weights increase incrementaly by 4-7 pounds, right up until the Crusiers, the aforementioned differences need to be highlighted.

This is has been done before and might be idealistic but still, here is what I would do:

    Flyweight: 115 Pounds
    Bantamweight: 120 Pounds
    Featherweight: 125 Pounds
    Super Featherweight: 129 Pounds
    Lightweight:135 Pounds
    Light-welter: 140 Pounds
    Welterweight: 146 Pounds
    Light Middleweight: 152 Pounds
    Middleweight: 159 Pounds
    Super Middleweight: 168 Pounds
    Light Heavyweight: 178 Pounds
    Cruiserweight: 190 Pounds
    Heavyweight: Unlimited*

*Minimum 210 Pounds with fighters moving up from Crusierweight having at least one catchweight fight for safety reasons.

Who are these mystical fighters that are worthy of being World Champions but are too big for cruiserweight and too small for heavyweight? All another division would do is create 4 more bogus champions.

If anything the heavyweight division is showing how irrelevant the weight difference is. I have no doubt that an excellent 6 ft 215lb fighter could beat both the Klitschkos. There just isn't one at the minute. You can't just create new divisions because people aren't good enough to beat the champions.

Jean Mark Mismatch spent 23 of his 41 fights @Lightheavy.

SO he is NOT a good barrometer of needing a "Super Heavy" division :deal

On the one hand, it does seem ridiculous that we can have Klitschko fights where their opponents are 5 or so inches smaller and outweighed by 30 pounds. In the context of other weight divisions, this is roughly the equivalent of Pacquiao fighting Hopkins. Unless the opponent is extremely good, they're more than likely going to come up short.

On the other hand, we didn't seem to moan as much when Lennox was bigger and heavier than most of his opponents.

  13. Agreed.

It's bad enough with 17 weight classes, when ten would be adequate.

    Scrap all the super/light/junior classes, with the exception of 175, so you have 105, 112, 118, 126, 135, 147, 160, 175, 190/200 & HW.

    Sorted.

Exactly and it would then mean there were was an additional weak division instead of just 1, its just a bad era for heavyweights.

No one wants to see a Super Heavyweight division, but eventually they'll need to raise the minimum weight of the Heavyweight division. Fighters are so much bigger now than they were when the weight limit was originally decided. Would make Cruiserweight a better division too.
