Overrated ? Jofre is one of the most UNDERRATED fighters of the world history.
He was considered by the WBC the best bantanweight of history.
Elected by The Ring in 2002 the 9th best fighter of the past 50 years.
Former WBC and WBA bantanweight champ, and WBC featherweight champ at the age of 37. There was no superbantanweight division at the time.
Only two losses in his resume. Robbed in the first one against Fighting Harada in a hometown decision. The second loss, to the same guy, was extremely close.
Never floored in his whole career.
Fought the best oposition of his time.
Top 20 in my book.

beat. Of course, he lost to some of them as well, but that was bound to happen within a schedule as demanding as his (in 1927, for example, he fought twenty times). Canzoneri fought for titles ranging from bantamweight to junior welterweight, winning the featherweight, lightweight and junior welterweight world championships.

I just think Canzoneri deserves a bit more recognition. As a world bantamweight title challenger, his lightweight achievement of two title reigns and five defences, his featherweight titles and one defence, and two defences of a junior welterweight title, plus beating a great welterweight in McLarnin, Canzoneri is a remarkable and stand-out fighter of his generation.

 

He lost twice to the best fighter he ever faced, and no, neither of his fights with Harada were robberies at all, in fact, you're the first I've heard consider them that. He was a very good fighter, ranks in my top 30, but his resume simply does not stack up. Have a look on boxrec if you want to, what names stand out as greater than any of the guys in my top 20?

 

And that means what? Roy was far more dominant in his prime than Hopkins, who has never even been P4P, and beat Hopkins. His resume outdoes Hopkins's resume as well, being as Hopkins had a habit of fighting smaller guys at a weight he was already big at. Roy Jones easily>Hopkins. EASILY.

 

I forgot about his reign at bantamweight and his win over McLarnin. I had him at 41 on my last list. He will move up now. :good

Impossible to score that fight for Harada. I was lucky to have the oportunity to watch his fights with Harada once.

Again, he was a very skilled fighter, one of the best of the lower weight of all time, arguably THE best Bantamweight. I'm not looking for articles on people saying how good he was, I'm looking for facts to support it. He was good wins, but his resume simply does not stack up to that level. I rank him just outside the top 25 of all time. Top 25 of the last 50 years is a totally different question.

 

That's pushing I'd say 20. Chavez is under-rated.
