Who do you rate higher out of larry holmes and the klitschko's

Holmes beat a version of Ali that the current Holyfield would shut out. Berbick and Cooney.......Chisora would KO either of them. Heck, Fury and Cooney could be a good fight.....Lots of KDs.

And the jury is still out as to the legacy of the K2. If Haye werent such a numbskull he could continue to beat the Blevels and win another title when the K2 are gone.
Chisora should win one if Mitchell busts or if Helenius doesn't heal. And both Vitali should be able to make 2 more defenses and Wlad 10-12 and become undisputed.

Holmes, like the K2 is often underrated because of the lower quality of opposition. But I think the K2 would beat his LOC much more decisively. For instance Haye KO1 Spinks. Peter KO1 Cooney. And Ray Austin could beat Berbick or the sick Ali pretty handily.:think

 

Its close, because you lumped the k bros together I voted for them. I'd pick both klits to beat holmes, but that being said I'd say holmes has the better resume and I'd say their p4p boxing skills would be close, with vitali and holmes above wlad. So if I was ranking them, all 3 would be very close in my rankings.

 

Yeah, i'm having major issues with people thinking that wlad would beat a prime holmes.

 

I really, firmly believe that today's athletes are stronger, hit harder, and are enhanced beyond belief though advancements in pharmaceutical industry. Ali had a god given talent, great movement and sharp reflexes. He is one of 3 heavies I believe would give Kbros Hell.

Holmes is not one of them.

Which Ali? The one Holmes fought? At least Mormeck had a pulse.

 

I can't think of anyone, outside of Wladimir and maybe Vitali. What kind of chance do you give prime Holmes vs prime Ali? I give either Klitschko a better shot than any version of Holmes.

 

Cooney (1980) vs Wladimir (2012) would be 50/50.

Once again, this is a purely hypothetical scenario. I just think that fighters in Ali's era made him look good, and he gets a lot of credit for the Ali-Frazer-Foreman triangle and his win against Liston. Yet at the same time, Frazer's main claim to fame is Ali, and Foreman's is the dismantling of Frazer. It's a vicious cycle, 3 fighters considered great because they fought it out between each other with varying success.

 

50/50 chance that Cooney lays Wladimir out on a stretcher in the very first round.

Muhammad Ali was a proven fighter by 1970. He had dominated the Heavyweight division with shocking ease prior to his exile. Joe Frazier proved his quality not only in beating this man, but also in his devastating displays against other good fighters in Bonavena, Ellis, Quarry, and Foster. I mean, that's the only way to really gauge the true quality of a fighter. How did they do when faced against great opposition? Frazier passed with flying colours.

Besides, Muhammad Ali fought and beat a lot of fighters not named Joe Frazier and George Foreman. I struggle to see your argument.

 

If a no chined bum like Cooney could go 13 rounds with Holmes he wouldnt stand much of a chance vs the brothers.

 

While those are all good points, let's not forget that these fighters Ali dominated were not the fighters we have today, i.e physically bigger, stronger, longer reach, more defensively oriented etc. We tend to idolize boxers from the past but once again, there is no definitive way to say how they would fare against top echelon of fighters today, because of the progress we are witnessing.

Let's hypothetically take Solis at his peak, when he weighted 91 kg and was the unstoppable machine. Or Haye at his peak, young, agile, best steroids available, the entire fight camp dedicated to studying every move, every step that Ali would make...today's athletes have a completely different approach to fighting. Back in the day, it was all Rocky montage-style training : strength, conditioning, lots of road work. Today, these fighters study tapes for days on end. Kbros, Solis, Haye, they would have come in knowing Ali as well as he knew himself. They would work exclusively on counters to everything Ali can throw. Fighters back in the day came into the ring to be themselves, a general version so to speak. Fighters today come in fine tuned to face this particular opponent, with a medical team, a research team and fun little bottles in the corner.

And of course Size. Ali was big for a heavyweight then. Against Kbros he would be smaller, he definitely wouldn't be as strong, and his punching power would be nowhere near Wlad's. I still think he would beat just about anyone in HW today, but it would be a tough, grueling fight that would last the distance.

PS: I actually give Solis after amateurs a 40% chance of beating Prime Ali, given he had the Kbro style camp and all the dedication they possess.

 

Bigger, stronger, and with better reach? In most cases, yes. But more defensively oriented? Only in the sense that most tend to go in survival mode right off the bat because they can't fight a lick. Wladimir's last title defence was utterly embarrassing for everyone involved. You'll struggle to go back in time and find a worse Heavyweight title fight.

Studying tapes didn't do Haye much good against Wladimir Klitschko. It wouldn't serve him any better in a fight with a peak Muhammad Ali.

Ali dealt with a 6'6 Ernie Terrel with shocking ease. Besides, at 6'3 Ali wasn't a small man himself. I don't see size alone ever beating a fighter of Ali's quality.

Based on what? Solis hasn't beaten any professional of any note this far, and he was knocked out in double quick time against Vitali. Explain?
