I think for in a p4p sense that takes into account his height and weight, then he's probably top 3. if were basing this purely on the most athletic heavyweight ever, then I think Ali takes it and many smaller men would probably rank above him slightly.
i understand where your coming from with this, however i think its just amplified in this era because so many contender look ridiculously out of shape! its pathetic sometimes to see what can only be described as a fat bloke in a professional sport. Where in eras gone by most of if not all of the contenders came in shape!
I would agree with Steward. And that is why I think Lennox beats Wlad most of the time. Lennox is a better boxing brain and could 'restructure the fight" as Steward says. Sure, Wlad might be very slightly better in some aspects. I actually think he is a smudge faster and perhaps even a bit stronger than Lennox, but they are physically very similar. And versatility-wise Lennox is better and more mentally strong. Against Vitaly it is a different thing because Vitaly is also a natural fighter. So Vitaly and Lennox I was completely tied. They would win half each no matter how many times they fought.
Wlad's biggest gift are his dedication and discipline. He puts his mind into this, 365 days a year. I don't believe in 'physical gifts'. They quickly go out of the window when people start loading up on junk food, alcohol and recreational drugs.
Wlad for sure is freakishly athletic, but i would say Ali was possibly more athletic since he was faster, faster footspeed Wlad only has power on Ali, but then again Wlad is bigger so its hard to pick.
Frazier wasn't athletic at all. There's hardly any footage of Jeffries and what little there is doesn't paint him to be exactly Mr Athletic. Roadwork, situps and balancing aren't the best ways to measure athleticism, and I doubt you'll find anyone that says otherwise. Patterson wouldn't be considered a real heavy in today's division, but fair enough, he was very coordinated, fast and fluid. Johnson and Schmeling? You need to get glasses.
I hope you apply that same scepticism to every quote you read about a fighter. The last quote seems like a perfectly legit, unbiased opinion BTW.
When I opened this thread I guessed some absolutely ridiculous names would come up. But Frazier? Foreman? Johnson? Schmeling? There's something called trying too hard, and this is it.
his footspeed is realy good for man at his size, but what technique you mean? Jab and crab? Waldi is to limited and had only three punches. He can´t fight at infight and is scared when a oppenent came close. At inside Waldi can only clinch. Lennox Lewis had the same size and his technique was far better, because he could fight outside and inside. Lewis could also punch to the body (waldi never heard of that) and was more complete then Waldi.
The **** he did, i wish ppl. would stop talking out of their ass for once. In no way or shape Lennox was doing different then Wlad in the inside. Steward thought both of them to use their large size to clinch on lean on their opponents in order to tire them out. Wlad was quite active on the inside before he hired Steward, and he also had much more punches in his arsenal. If he stopped using them it doesn't mean he can't, he found a better and safer way to inflict damage on his opponent without taking any, cuz' after all this is what boxing is all about.:deal
