It was a great stoppage, he looked after Macklin's health and he can fight another day.

My first thought is "You watch the sport to see people getting hurt, not because of the skill". My second is that those people have nothing of any worth to say to me.

Nah, I had Martinez pts. Lost out 70 quid, but it was a good stoppage. Not always a fan of McGirt's stopapges or work in general, but that was correct. Macklin would have taken a hellacious beating in the last round that could have marred his overall performance and his career.

Macklin was done. It's that simple. You could see it in his eyes.

Macklin put in a great performance, but that fight was going to go only one way in the 12th. Martinez may not have KO'd Macklin, but he would have beat the **** out of him for the last three minutes.

McGirt made the right call IMO.

Macklin was done and I'm of the sort that I like to see them fight until the end but Macklin showed over 11 rounds that he had absolutely nothing for Martinez other than enough to not get blown away.

On another note, McGirt ruined another fighter. Macklin had the left hand low, trying to catch shots, jab, jab, jab and stepping around. That was never going to beat Martinez. His best bet was to suffocate him. He might have got ko'd earlier but the rewards were much greater than losing 10-2 or getting stopped late.

def agree on the stoppage .... McGirt did exactly the right thing ... there was no way macklin would have pulled anything out in the 12th round
