Useless trainer (people defending him are clueless)
What trainer would have his fighter giveup any edge he has to BOX Mayweather?
Or to throw MORE left hooks when that was the 1 punch that got you continiously counterd vs Martinez.

Made Malignaggi fight a completely inffective style as well.
He does have some grasp of ceirtan boxing fundamentals and can teach those but when it comes to adding to a fighters strength or analysing fighters to find a gameplan hes just absolutely terrible.

All that being said though i do respect him for actually CARING about his figther, almost anytime he pulls the plug i think it was the right decision and hes saving his figther from punishment.
That said if he actually had a working gameplan 50% of the time it probably would not be needed.

When it comes to name trainers i think hes a detriment to almost any fighter and only ranks somewhat above Teddy Atlas who is even more dangerous to a fighter.

This is the second time that a fighter comes to US, trains with Butty, drinks some water and gets knocked out my Martinez.

ortiz used to be a boxer puncher with robert garcia then he became a brawler under danny garcia.

buddy could do well with him.

He's a good trainer. You can see the imprint he leaves on fighters styles and he takes alot of average guys and makes them better then waht they were.

 

I dont think he fight well enough going backwards to be an effective boxer puncher and his d is so-so. I think hell work well as an intelligent pressure fighter who can change tempo like Cotto used to be

Agreed. Buddy takes average fighters and makes them competitive against elites...well...except for Gatti...but you can't expect the man to perform miracles baby.

 

Well maybe he cares about his fighters as he is a former fighter himself and knows the dangers. Also, buddy has never gotten top notch talent he's always given B or C level guys or good fighters that are old and on their 3rd or 4th trainer...............

Macklin put up a good showing. A 10-1 underdog putting the champ down is a good accomplishment.
