It is in the WBC bylaws that championship fights call for testing. Yeah, they skirted it once but I doubt they will get away with the 'forgot' excuse again.

How would they not get away with it? Who would do something to them? Texas didn't become the worst commission in the world by worrying what others thought of them and I see no reason why they would do so now, especially for a cash cow like Chavez.

Who? The Martinez camp I am sure would do their job and make sure that the testing wasn't "forgotten" again. The WBC has been sued before and lost big time. Chavez isn't big enough to make them put themselves in that position again. Texas doesn't test as a rule. This was always up to the WBC.

I think(hope) he's just posturing to get Chavez to accept the testing, but I get what you're saying... I didn't see anywhere he said he wouldn't take the fight without the testing though.. I saw he said they'd try to get him stripped (unsuccessfully) and if he got stripped they'd try to face another opponent... That gives me hope that if Chavez doesn't accept testing, and they don't get him stripped, they'll face him without testing.

So if fighter A says in the press he will accept anything to get big name fighter B, and subsequently turns it down when B offers him a split of 1%, that means A was simply looking for a way out of the fight he begged for, right?

The article isn't definitive but I take it to be a sticking point since Martinez goes on to talk about getting him stripped and he claims the ONLY block is the testing.

Nice try at deflection but it doesn't even remotely apply here. As stated, ALL other points are agreed to. Martinez never had a reasonable expectation that he could force this demand on Jr so it doesn't even come close to applying here. If he now doesn't take the fight and uses that as the reason, it was, by definition, a way out.

Can't back Sergio on this, and I find this move baffling. It's a hugely winnable fight, and a big pay day, and his belt back. Why?

That is EXACTLY the point. I can only think that Sergio believes he is too small. He has made noise about moving back down. Like I said in other posts, I always believed Sergio would win this one. Now, seeing his doubts, I'm not so sure.

This is a fight Martinez has been asking for. If THIS is the reason it doesn't happen, his own fault.
